also western "food" aid is sometimes a straight up trojan horse for getting weapons to right wingers planning a "totally organic and supported by the population"

Most comedy that focuses on anything larger than personal experiences or observations is only made possible by the ignorance of the comedian and their audience, and to point out basic reality is to "ruin the joke" and it'll get the treat defenners REALLY mad
truly the treat defenders are the vanguard of reaction, because all hegemonic ideology can be re-cast by them as good clean fun

This was a common joke from comedians back then. The only exposure people in the West in the 80s/90s had to Africa/Asia was either seeing them being bombed on the news, movies about how sad Americans were that they were killing people over there, or charity ads/LiveAid type things where they'd depict these places as desolate places full of people who can't do anything for themselves.
