Inside, they barricaded the office and tied the commandant to his chair. Mishima wore a white hachimaki headband with a red hinomaru circle in the center bearing the kanji for "To be reborn seven times to serve the country" (七生報國, Shichishō hōkoku), which was a reference to the last words of Kusunoki Masasue, the younger brother of the 14th century imperial loyalist samurai Kusunoki Masashige (楠木正成), as the two brothers died fighting to defend the Emperor.[177] With a prepared manifesto and a banner listing their demands, Mishima stepped out onto the balcony to address the soldiers gathered below. His speech was intended to inspire a coup d'état to restore the power of the emperor. He succeeded only in irritating the soldiers, and was heckled, with jeers and the noise of helicopters drowning out some parts of his speech.

After he finished reading his prepared speech in a few minutes' time, Mishima cried out "Long live the Emperor!" (天皇陛下万歳, Tenno-heika banzai) three times. He then retreated into the commandant's office and apologized to the commandant, saying,

"We did it to return the JSDF to the Emperor. I had no choice but to do this."

Mishima then committed seppuku, a form of ritual suicide by disembowelment associated with the samurai. Morita had been assigned to serve as Mishima's second (kaishakunin), cutting off his head with a sword at the end of the ritual to spare him unnecessary pain. However, Morita proved unable to complete his task, and after three failed attempts to sever Mishima's head, Koga had to step in and complete the task.

He wasn't "in denial", he wrote some very homoerotic things. He was also a traditional mid-century Japanese man, and was publicly discreet about such things.

he wrote several semi-autobiographical novels with gay protagonists (confession of a mask, forbidden colors) so idk if he was really in denial about it

Fascists get so mad when you point this out. They have some reasoning as to why when a Japanese fascist does it, it isn't really gay. Lol.

He'd pick up guys in gay bars and make them act out seppuku rituals with him which must have really sucked if you were the other guy and just wanted to bust

I went down a rabbit hole about Mishima quite some time ago. My conclusion was that he was just tired, knew he was fighting a losing battle, and wanted to go out with a bang.

Evidently his novels are some of the most influential ever written in the Japanese language. He also made a short film, to my surprise. I spent some hours tracking it down, and to my lack of surprise, it was about a man who was going to commit seppuku.

Yeah, I finally found it. It's only 10 minutes or so. It's in black and white. The man comes in, has this doomed time with his wife or girlfriend, and then they kill themselves and blood pours on the ground. Not a surprise, being Japanese and all. I remember the kimonos were exquisite.

Hmm, this might double post. Hexbear is fucking up and not registering comments.

Watch Paul Schrader's 1984 biopic, Mishima. My all-time favourite movie. It explores how he came to his politics and coup attempt through four of his novels, recreated in a wild kabuki style. Beautiful cinematography and Phillip Glass soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytA4_dI2mjc

(NSFW: nudity) Kyoko's House in particular is such a great chapter- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1YRcXlgUAg

He was also involved in a arranged marriage where he tried his hardest to get it canceled.

The candidate in question? The current empress of Japan

tbh, the only one i see who are masturbating as Mishima as an important figure are some westoid randos online rightwing larp who likes Death in June too much. In Japan, it's mostly like a ''Baudelaire'' kind of figure who glorified the mythical past of Japan and is becoming more and more foreign to the evolving Japan Society post war, a romantic Larper if you will.

Japan does have a lot of similarity on its outlook on art to France and Italy in that sense

In the Japanese literature yes, that is what i got from talking to Japanese.

My point is when you talk to non japanese whites, most of them are more focused on the political larping of Mishima
