More and more people are saying it
I thought buying software licenses was bad enough, but this is far worse. It really is capitalism's goal for us to rent our entire lives.
It shouldn't be a license in the first place, it wasn't so long ago that you could buy software on a physical disk and actually own it
I put the software on my physical hard drive for free because digital scarcity isn't real
Just wait until they can remotely delete it.
Apple already does this. They can and will delete apps straight off your phone. Just, one day, poof gone. And Apple is widely regarded as a leader that everyone else copies.
I'll airgap that shit if I have to, apple can eat my entire ass
Planned Obsolescence, baby! The product to which you hold license will no longer integrate with any other proprietary software within the next six years.
Something something you will own nothing and you will be happy. :liberalism:
Socialism is bad because you won't even own your own toothbrush.
So, anyway, now you can pay $10/mo to DigitalFloss and receive a weekly allotment of Smart Bristles that integrate with your Sonic Cleansing Wand. Please select ACKNOWLEDGE on this 43 page licensing agreement to confirm you will accept the charges. We reserve the right to change this contract without notice.
it’s less than price of cup of coffee
always assume everyone is spending over $10k/year in coffee and just trying to stiff you on your $20/month service widget as-an-app that's barely a notepad.exe clone written in electron and was 9 years old before it implemented dark mode.
I get coffee for free at work, and in fact if you walk into the waiting room of any car dealership you can get free coffee
Stopping by a car dealership every day on the way to work is huge brain
Goes to a car dealership
:grillman: babbles about insecure status bullshit and which penis substitute on wheels will fix that
:gigachad-hd: "No, thank you. I'm just here for the free coffee."
But then you have to drink car dealership coffee :visible-disgust:
I'm getting the runs just thinking about it
before it implemented dark mode.
Techbros seem to violently hate sleep with the white background and blue everything standard everywhere. :so-true:
i dont understand people who use dark mode 24/7. do you not have any light in your room or something?
It's easier on my eyes. They feel less tired afterward and I sleep easier. Do I need to have blue and white light continually crisping my retinas to please you?
no, i just keep it on a schedule. light mode is easier on my eyes during the day and worse at night
plus fonts render significantly better in light mode for me than in dark mode
So the answer is apparently yes, I am supposed to have blue and white crisping my retinas for a specific period of time daily to please you.
I just don't like reading text with glaring white backgrounds, ever. Older computers used to be green on black and that suited me fine.
When you stare into letters on a computer screen all day you tend to prefer dark mode as it is easier on the eyes.
i stare at letters on a computer all day and i prefer light mode. i guess it's just one of those things ppl like to get mad about for some reason
i guess it’s just one of those things ppl like to get mad about for some reason
You invited yourself here and got mad at people using dark mode too much for you.
i wasn't mad dude, i just said i didn't get it. your comments have been way angrier than any of mine
When in the history of the internet has "calm down" been used both in good faith and successfully?
I'll assume it is a good faith thing instead of more concern trolling, but desist.
If you're going to invoke the disengage policy then only say "disengage". Using it as way to get the last word in is abuse of the disengage policy.
Locking the thread to put an end to this.
Yes I live in a cave and am entertained by shadows on the wall thank you
Price of a cup of coffee: Free (coffee at work) to a few cents (a bit of water and electricity to make the coffee I was gifted).
it’s less than price of cup of coffee
actually jacks up cup of coffee prices like a boss
:stonks-up:
Actually Switch Online becoming a subscription service is good because it helped me stop playing video games all the time, now I support banning all video games :gigachad:
But there's a FREE TRIAL that is deliberately hard to cancel before it starts charging! :so-true:
That shit is the worst. If I wanted to buy the damn thing I would want to pay the same price for it all the time, not suddenly be hit over the head with a huge price hike once I've gotten used to the low/free price.
I'm just following the rules of capitalism when I pirate. It demonstrates that I do not demand the companies' supply of subscription based services. If they want me to purchase their products, they should simply innovate better products and models.
https://novastream.to/ Only tv/movie streaming service you'll ever need.
I use https://fmovies.to/ and http://9anime.to/
What’s with all these websites ending in .to?
:doubt: doesn't matter what the . is, it's about where the illegal content is hosted. The .to is popular with torrenting sites for a simpler reason
No the entire Tongan islands are covered in servers that the bumbling Tongan police can never seem to find
Jokes on them, I’ve been pirating every kind of software and digital media I can think of for over 20 years.
I will not get a Spotify or a Pandora
I will continue paying the artists directly with Bandcamp and download the music and listen to it on my own terms
What is "Spotify" and why does my minimalist and leashed and malware filtered Windows 10 system suddenly have it annoying me on boot-up as of 2 weeks ago?
I don't want it.
I would have downloaded it myself if I wanted it.
When my OS pushed it on me without asking and made it a priority on boot-up, I got suspicious.
it’s actually way more convenient than piracy
The only reason I pay for anything anymore. I get HBO and Hulu packaged into my ISP and cell plans, so I guess I'll use them if I've got them. I've had a Netflix plan for years, primarily because its easier to click the play button than turn on my VPN and go hunt down a torrent.
But, like, pro sports? Literally easier to pirate that shit than figure out how to stream it legally.
someone posted this here and I liked it
meme's outdated though, get qBT or deluge or something instead of utorrent
netflix is curbing sharing accounts but you still can reasonably get away with subscribing to one of these services and then sharing your credentials with your friends until you have everything covered, bonus points if there's some sort of family plan.
Probably why I don't have any of those except the Switch one and just play old VSH tapes and used games from old consoles most of the time. Books too.
The three-part dissection of George Lucas' prequel series was exquisite. It hit the nail on the head again, and again, and again. It was what drew me into Youtube and why I started subscribing to creators. Now I love Youtube, there's so much awesome content.
RLM is still going, I'm not sure what the last big plinkett review was.
