Nah, this is Gen X shit.

All offices are "open concept floating desks" now. You don't even get the cube walls to tack your "hang in there" poster to.

I worked in a fast-paced unpredictable environment just like that.

It was fast-paced and unpredictable because I never knew which of my coworkers or managers were about to come to my desk and make a racist joke despite my frequent requests that they stop.

See, I personally think that edgy humor can be funny so believe me when I say that none of these jokes were funny in the least. For example, they thought it was really funny to go to my indian coworker and tell him every time they had curry for lunch (despite his requests that they stop).

last time i had or saw tall cubical walls in a corporate environment was like 2003, and within a year we relocated to some open plan bullshit with half walls where you could look over them if you sat up straight.

naturally, the move for all of us early 20s types was to slouch down and cram our bodies under the desk, so that our chins were barely above the desk surface.

honestly, the birth of no frills forum posting with no-inline images seems to have exploded at that time, because all our screens were visible to management. so i could read stupid shit on forums all day and not draw any attention.
