I don’t think I’ve fully internalized how frankly bizarre the world of suburban mega churches are. And I’m saying that as somebody who attended one as a kid.

If it weren't for the fact that this is a religious tax dodging scheme, the idea of drum corps suspended from wires is cool as fuck.
I played my drum for Him, pa-rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa-rum pum pum pum
Rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum
Then He smiled at me, pa-rum pum pum pum
Me and my drum
It's so alienating how megachurches have turned participating in worship with your church community into observing a spectacle.
The bible says that you'll go to hell for doing shit like this like 8 separate times. Evangelicals are a fucking trip.

The spanish version of the Little Drummer Boy is all about the kid feeling bad because he has no gold or riches to offer to baby Jesus, and how all he has is an old drum, but it being more than enough to worship. Dunno if that's how the English version goes, but i don't think they ever intended a stadium with drummers suspended from cables.
It was written in the late 1950s. The English version is the same...
In the lyrics, the singer relates how, as a poor young boy, he was summoned by the Magi to the Nativity of Jesus. Without a gift for the Infant, the little drummer boy played his drum with approval from Jesus's mother, Mary, recalling, "I played my best for him" and "He smiled at me".
If a Christian band were to do a cover now - I bet they'd focus more on the drums and far less on the poverty and the actual message.

Really a metaphor for their entire belief system.
Sorry Jesus, after paying for the the rigging, the harnesses, the safety inspections, and insurance I'm broke as fuck and have no alms for the poor. But listen to this sick drum solo!
The English version is the same.
:geordi-no: humble gift
:geordi-yes: spectacle
Jesus paying the little drummer boy in exposure.
My Grandpa is an evangelical, but I genuinely respect him and his church for hating megachurches. That is it. The rest is very bad.
The way they fly around reminds me of the ending scene from Hereditary.
:jesus-cleanse: , except he's in a ZSU-23-4 Shilka anti-aircraft vehicle and he's shooting down flying drummers
Yeah ngl, this is the coolest music-related Christian thing I've ever come across
:downbear:
"artistic endeavor"
Nah, they're going to use it for neutered pseudo-art
Christianity - especially Evangelicalism from the perspective of a USian - bad
throwing money at artistic endeavors is one of the few good things about organized religion.
I once lived near a evangelical Christian college. They sponsored live music and not only was it excellent - it was dirty cheap too. Two name a couple musicians - I saw the faminco guitarist Carlos Montoya and the classical guitarist Christopher Parkening.
Parkening was really good. But Montoya was something else. He walked on stage and even though I knew he was old - I was surprised. He came on stage and he was a stooped old man and he moved slowly as he carried his guitar. I thought to myself "Man, he's so old. This is gonna suck." But just seconds into his very first song it was clear he was going to blow me away.
Edit: I forgot a word.
They had to find some use for their radial move-back-and-forth-in-the-air thingy
