In fairness, they abolished slavery in a literal civil war years after the events of Morrowind.

The civil war happened before the Red Year, though. It was initiated by Helseth and supported by half of the great houses. Probably not for entirely altruistic reasons since Helseth is driven by imperial business interests but that also applies to our Civil War too.

Not to the same degree, that's for sure. The Altmer Thalmor desire to retcon all of creation to retroactively remove non-Mer from existence is really something. As is the Dominion's infantical campaign in Shadowfen in Elder Scrolls Online to try to murder an entire generation of Argonians before they hatch.
They're not trying to retcon reality, they're trying to unmake it entirely
