Lady's out here acting as an advocate for autistic people and also designing ways to industrially kill animals more efficiently. You can't claim to be empathic to animals and then build ways to slaughter them.

Surely reducing the suffering within an existing system that you can’t change is better than not reducing that suffering. I think she genuinely centered the creatures’ experience, but failed to predict that capitalism would simply turn the dial up to reach the maximally profitable level of suffering.

“Let me kill you more efficiently” is not centering the animals experience don’t eat up this woman’s absolute crock of shit. She’s always been first and foremost motivated by increasing her own and the industry profits.

Much of her innovations are more efficient because they put the animals under less stress and harm.

Wow, so cool. I sure hope I can be killed with less stress and harm, sounds great.

If stopping the slaughter of animals is so easy, you do it. Until then, why trash someone for working to make sure their last moments are more comfortable and less painful when capitalists have no incentive to care otherwise?

I repeat: would you rather have animals tortured to death or killed cleanly? because if a single person can end the slaughter of animals, why haven't you done it yet

Why are those the only options? And why am I being asked to end this alone?

Because that's the premise of the critque of Temple Grandin in this post. "Making the conditions animals are killed in 20% less terrible is bad because they should not be killed" is a garbage take unless the person making conditions less terrible also has the power to end the killing.

We live in the world we live in, not in the world that we wish we lived in.

The focus was never on making the conditions less terrible, it is always about increasing profits. Making the conditions less terrible is a nice litte PR pill I think you’re a bit too eager to swallow

Counterpoint, the animals were already going to be slaughtered whether her methods were included in the process or not.

Wow it’s almost like her methods help them slaughter more cows though huh

?More? No, the same number would be slaughtered whether the cows were lead down a maze or not.

The number of animals slaughtered every year keeps going up so don’t give me this “?more?” dumb fuck routine like innovations in meat industry don’t facilitate more death

That's the point, trying to blame a single person for an increase in animal suffering is pretty weird. Temple Grandin didn't increase shit. In a society where animal meat is a commodity, her trying to make the suffering of the animals less didn't increase the number of deaths.

You can criticize her for not being a vegan. You can temper people trying to give her kudos for her work in the meat industry by pointing out she was involved in a lot of bloodshed and suffering I suppose. But trying to say that she single handedly increased the amount of animals going through the grinder is not correct.

She helped the meat industry kill more animals and make more money simple as I’m not saying she’s the only person but you’re bullshitting hard

Yeah this woman is basically the devil. Listen to one of her Ted talks or something, you’ll see she was never the empath the movie made her out to be.

Ohhhhhh so that's what that AJJ song is about. I'd never heard of Temple Grandin. "Find a nicer way to kill it" is a lyric burned into my brain, but its so much more scathing knowing the subject matter.

Comments seem fine so far, but I'm locking this just in case someone decides to come in here later and try to start another vegan struggle session.

What’s that? Temple grandin is a piece of shit and reducing the suffering of animals in the slaughterhouses is good?

    I never would have guessed!
