The news keeps saying it's "immunity debt" so some people think they should spread their illness. We've learned nothing from the pandemic. Everyone I know is sick right now.

If we want to be healthy we must infect ourselves with every one of the several dozen viruses that give us cold symptoms. :galaxy-brain:

From what I understand it's also NOT FUCKING IMMUNITY DEBT. Unless I'm mistaken, things are also much worse than usual in Florida/Texas/other states with the weakest possible restrictions and mandates.

The mainstreaming of anti-masking started with Biden’s presidency; now we are seeing the mainstreaming of anti-vaxxing. Local newspapers have been reporting on local schools shutting down; they quote local doctors who say that because we did Chinese-style lockdowns and everyone was duct-taped into their bathrooms for years we are now paying our immunity debt. I am only slightly exaggerating. Chuds will die for Trump; libs will die for Biden.

Yeah, it's awesome. Illnesses are showing insane infection rates everywhere in places where they didn't have lockdowns like the southern US, and Sweden, and we had return of viruses last year at the same levels but with much lower hospitalization rates, and they want to pretend everyone's been living in a bubble until this year.

Even if that were true it would still be sociopathic the way they use it but it isn't. https://archive.ph/KwoT5

What if covid infections wear down our immunity?

My kid, my wife, and I all had COVID last month, then my kid gets the flu. He's high risk and she insists on keeping him on the swimming team where he is around other kids and can't wear a mask. I'm pretty fed up with her because I protest this and she throws my mental health issues in my face to deflect from the criticism. I basically quiet quit my marriage at this point. I'm going to be without a job in the new year and I'm dependent on her insurance for my therapy and medications. I want to just leave, but I can't. I'm feeling trapped and like I want to self harm, but I had a close relative commit suicide in 2021 and it destroyed me. I don't want to do that to my kids, but I am at my fucking limit.

Love and solidarity. I hope you can find work that gives you needed autonomy so you can take care of what you need to feel safe again. Please don't self-harm, there's a world to win.

I’m married with kids to a Bernie lib and I feel this. My spouse sounds much more understanding than yours because she has allowed us to homeschool now for years and 99% of the time doesn’t pressure us to do things around anti-maskers. (We can afford to do this because she is an RN and half my family is rich.) A few months ago I lost it at my parents’ house and for about a week everyone was trying to have me committed because if you question Biden you must be insane. (Dead serious about this and my parents also voted Bernie in the primary.) Thankfully my (even more lib) uncle is a psychiatrist—we talked on the phone for an hour and he said there was nothing wrong with me. Afterward my family relented. I found a pseudo-Marxist therapist and haven’t spoken with my parents since.

Many of our disagreements center on sending our kids back to school, and the fact that lib schools in the area have been shutting down lately because everyone is sick in our blue state hasn’t prompted any of these people to tell me that I was right all along.

And I doubt they ever will. Could be worse, the woman I previously had a kid with is a full on MAGA chud now.

We seem to have very similar situations. My wife is a CNA, I used to be an LPN, but now I work in Cybersecurity. Not rich by any stretch, but we're mostly ok. That's another point of contention, I have gone to college twice since we've been together, in 2011 for an associate's degree in IT, and just now I finished a bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity.

I encouraged her to go back to school so she doesn't have to clean shit for a living, and because our income are so lopsided now. She's not young anymore and she has hurt her back lifting, requiring physical therapy and being out of work. She does most of the child care, but tries to dictate how the money in the household is spent, while I'm the one that makes the lion's share of it. I feel taken advantage of and disregarded in my marriage. I feel very trapped and I don't want to put my child through a divorce. He's special needs, autistic, Tourette's syndrome, a few other things. I am certain I'm BPD and Bipolar type 2 asking with C-PTSD, anxiety and major depression. She won't even read a book I gave her on understanding BPD, but she'll throw it in my face and for years she didn't believe me when I told her about my childhood abuse. That's a whole other book to be written. Christo-fash parents that would punch, kick, and choke me growing up, along with verbal and financial abuse. I was a heroin addict for a few years and I've been clean for 12 years now and I have no source for it now. But I have a strong desire to use again and OD. I'm gonna talk with one of my therapists tomorrow. I can't shake the feeling of wanting to just give up and end it.

I’m very sorry to hear all of this. It’s a really tough situation you’re in and although it’s a cliche to say, there’s no easy answer. I can’t really offer much advice but feel free to message me if you need someone to talk to.

I appreciate the kind words and concern. Far more than I get at home. I just feel so disconnected from reality. I have a therapy session tomorrow. Maybe that will help a little bit.

It's been pretty clear for a while now that covid causes immune system suppression, ever since it was first announced I remember being fascinated at how low WBCs would be on these patients.

The debate is currently between whether it causes T cells to kill themselves, sabotages them and prevents them from going to or reacting to infections; thia seems to last at least 4-6 months vs. doing what measles does, which is just completely wipe your immune system's hard drive of all prior data.

I've always thought it was totally fucked and very shortsighted we don't study viruses more because they are WILD but are so much harder to study due to size, but nobody seems to care because the drugs are ineffective, nightmares, or both. My suspicions were heightened when several autoimmune diseases last year were definitively linked to prior viral infections immediately before the patients became symptomatic.

The #2 and #3 most prevalent strains of covid in the states right now have zero immune recognition, so you could in theory pass the same virus around your extended family indefinitely and would get reinfected every time. The fancy antibody serums are completely useless now.. This was originally a doomsday scenario in 2020 but now that it's finally happening, crickets. Because a fucking democrat is in office we can't admit these assholes are fucking up and doing the exact same shit if not worse.

Everybody around is sick. My activist group had like 50% of people out, and my brother's whole branch of the family all sick together – basiclaly no group activities can happen no, or only at half-strength and with risk of cancellation

You deserve, like everyone, to not have to work when sick. Also workers in general deserve to not work next to sick people forced into work.

    Also sorry you're sick comrade

Wore cloth mask and gloves every day at work, still managed to get a crappy sore throat for several days. I'd wear something heavier but the straps dig into my face.

I've spent more time feeling sick than feeling well starting in like November.

Ok customer's don't know they do this and bless their little souls for being absolute zombie NPCs but there's 200 packages of pepperoni and they need the one directly in front of my face.
