They'll try that, but they refuse to use it as anything other than an investment vehicle :only-throw:

Honestly the researchers will probably conclude that the root cause is the lack of affordable housing and everyone will ignore it. The point of giving the money is to look like you're taking it seriously

Nah, libs love to say "just build more housing". They just don't want to distribute that housing fairly.

Even when they're pro building housing it tends towards letting the free market decide, i.e. building shit that makes sense to an investor to make money off, i.e. luxury condos that fall apart in 5 years

Give me $20m and I'll give you the conclusions of this study without the middleman. The result will be "poor people just don't bother to earn money so it's okay to punish them and to change nothing about society :edgeworth-shrug:".

They created an "initiative" with the money: https://homelessness.ucsf.edu/. The people working there mostly have a medical background. They do local research and advise policymakers, e.g. interviewing people who live in RVs & finding out what alternatives are preffered, what their direct concerns are, etc.

This doesn't seem like a bad thing to me. It's not establishing communism, but it's a way for unhoused people to be represented and have their concerns heard. This doesn't mean all their issues will be solved, but that isn't the fault of this research group. Groups like this don't propose altering macroeconomics, but small-scale community plans like changing RV housing laws, creating resources for drug testing & clean needles, municipal budgets for rental assistance, etc. The reason for that is still :liberalism:, of course.

I'm not saying the scientists or professionals involved will be malicious, but the results of these groups seem to be, at best 'harmless', and at worst, very damaging. There's already a wealth of evidence for policymakers, they're not looking for more data, just more excuses to carry on as usual.

It might have something to do with billionaires blowing 30 million dollars to get scientists to lie about the causes of homelessness so the status quo can continue...and I'll give him that for free

I guess I'd never work anywhere that this fucker would have a relationship with, but yeah I'd probably just tell him "well, it might have something to do with the fact that you have 30M$ to blow"

I've thought about this same problem myself, what is the cause and solution of homelessness. I keep coming back to concept that they're homeless because they don't have a house and that the solution is to give them one. But we'll wait on the results of a 30mil study to see what is actually happening.
