When the war in Ukraine began in late February,

the 'war' began with the 2014 CIA coup to steal farmland via IMF debt

Every place in every corner of the world has something an American imperialist might value extracting.

But I cannot, for the life of me, imagine how destroying every last inch of infrastructure between the Donbas and Berlin benefits Western Capital. Might as well claim the English blew up the Nordstream 2 in order to extract natural gas from Russia.

But who is the US going to bring in to rebuild infrastructure in an active warzone?

I mean, Halliburton seemed happy enough to take paychecks twenty years ago.

That said, very little in Iraq ever actually got rebuilt. Most of what exists today was simply salvaged and guarded.

This is actually what I mean. Americans will take money to rebuild, and whether it gets done or not, the money will flow

The money will flow but only inside the US. The exploitation of Ukraine - particularly Eastern Ukraine - will be far more difficult now than it was a decade ago simply because they've demolished everything in the country a Western actor would need to control it.

In the same way that our invasion of Iraq pushed the country directly into the arms of Iran and our conquest of Afghanistan strengthened regional ties with Pakistan, this war in Ukraine will be far more geopolitically beneficial to its surrounding neighbors than to a far-flung colonial power.
