I'm 32 I really cannot eat like I did in my early 20s anymore. Same way I simply cannot handle alcohol without a massive hangover the next day.
Ate a whole bag of hot chips and had 4 taco bell hardshell tacos for dinner last night. Now my face is all puffy and round from the shit sodium they put in manufactured garbage.
This stuff really does effect your mental health if you consume too much of it.
Sodium used to be very sparse in our diets, so we find it super tasty and retain it incredibly well. Potassium used to be abundant, so we find it less tasty and shed it extremely easily. Modern processed diets turn this relation on its head, though.
If you find it hard to reduce your sodium consumption, one thing that helps is at least balancing it by boosting your intake of other electrolytes like potassium and magnesium too. There's some supplements/powders that are sodium free but high in other electrolytes, and while I don't hate those, I personally find a can of low-sodium V8 juice a fairly effective way to boost that balance. Low calorie, low sodium, and it has 25% of your daily recommended intake of potassium per serving. My heart and circulation feels better, I get less headaches, and I feel a lot less bloated even when I eat too much sodium. Try it out and see if you find it helps! Your kidneys have to work overtime when the balance is off, and it of course takes its toll on cardiac health too.
From one slowly but surely aging sack of meat to another, I hope you find solutions and patterns of living that work for you :)
I'm just one of those people that retains water if I eat a significant amount of sodium. So yeah I'd say I'm sensitive to it
Really just depends on who you are.
Some people are just more sensitive to it I guess. You've never heard of anyone's face bloating up after a night of Americanized "Chinese food" that's high in MSG? I retain water if i consume too much. My body just doesn't handle it right
Drink (lots) more water? Alchohol andsodium both dehydrate you
Is maybe a good thing you feel it fast. Not in terms of overall health, as you shouldn’t feel it that hard, but in terms of “I need to not do that”
Eat a banana, the potassium will help with water management. Don't chug water. Drink it consistently over the next couple of hours. Your kidneys will process it and you'll piss the excess sodium out soon enough.
If you want to accelerate the process take a hot bath and sweat it out. Edit: do be careful with the bathtub method, I wouldn't do it if you live alone. You run the risk of passing out and that is uhh no good if you are in a tub full of water. You could bundling up, laying on a towel, and piling blankets on top to induce sweating.
Makes you look like shit and feel like shit. I understand why smart people eat this stuff sparingly. I'm the dumbass who loves the taste and can't get enough of it lol.
I love taco bell and a night where I have four items for dinner sounds like a feast in honor of a celebration. Don't be so hard on yourself, comrade, this is the hangover of a victory
Reading this fully cognizant of the terrible consequences that await me from the Del Taco breakfast burrito I'm currently eating
I probably still eat to much of the stuff, but I've significantly cut down on it the past few years and I've felt a lot better for it.
It was getting especially bad since I would often eat high sodium junk food late a night after getting back from work.
It's just bad for you all around. And it probably is designed to be addicting
basically doing anything outside my routine now has me feeling like shit the next day
If I hydrate a bunch and eat too much sodium I get the same way. Hard to find that equilibrium, just gotta eat better lol. I'm in the same boat not giving advice.
If it makes you feel better I think it's mostly benign, I got 90+ year olds on both sides of the family and it's just sort of a thing.
I'm going to try out pescatarian/Mediterranean for a bit and see how I do with it
Does it affect you beyond aesthetics? If not I wouldn’t worry too much, yes eat healthier for other reasons, but round faces are cute. Don’t buy into psycho westoid beauty standards or you’ll end up looking like Tom Brady’s demonic ass post bucal fat removal.
