This is a uniquely American thing. The point is that the fed gets to say “you have time off” without actually giving you time off.

Isn't that because America has no real holidays except for Independence day?

Everything else is appropriated from other cultures for the sole purpose to increase consumption through holiday gifts, goods, and celebrations

Oh baby, have I got a story for y'all then. Denmark is literally about to get rid of a holiday (immediately after an election, where this was discussed a grand total of 0 minutes by any of the three parties currently forming government). The worst part is, the holiday is getting shitcanned so that our prime minister can raise the defense budget, without having to make cuts somewhere else. Also the failson in charge of our liberal party was made minister of defense, which has traditionally been the failson position that you give to a friend to ensure that said friend gains a lifelong pension funded by the parliament.

We also use it to purchase F-35 aircraft, because like any good little vassal, we pay our tribute to the overlords with a smile on our faces :agony-consuming:

Though I don't really know how involved we were in Libya (because I wasn't in Denmark at that point, and the media quickly swapped to a different story), but we were HEAVILY involved in Iraq and also had some kind of presence in Afghanistan, so we are definitely not exactgly peaceniks.

That's so weird because I lived in a city where the population of the metro was only a little less than Denmark and I'm pretty sure we couldn't afford to maintain even a handful of F-35s without massive cuts to everything.

We finance our F-35 purchase by being an aggricultural exporter and supplying the rest of Scandinavia with food. We also make a lot of pharmaceutical products, but I have fuckall idea who we sell them to.
