based, fuck cigarettes. as to the "but banning drugs doesn't work" - the material basis for banning cigarettes compared to, say, haroin are completely different. so many people smoke in so many places that it would be a massive boon to public health to curb it and therefore reduce secondary inhalation, but that doesn't make it a good idea to equip fascistic death squads to go after smokers.
It's just public places, this isn't 1984 Jorge Orwin :nineteeneightyfour:
I'm here for this 1984. I'm not gonna diagnose myself with anything but I physically cannot breath in the presence of smoke. I don't give a shit if this inconveniences you, unironically cry me a fucking river :sicko-luna:
I have no fucking patience with this shit. Hope we don't get the same onslaught of whiny "gubmint tell me what to do and I have to give a shit about public health" Next time we'll have a struggle session over whether bedtimes are authoritarian and if you should be allowed to drink and drive. Honestly reminds me of the chud freakout over incandescent lightbulbs and plastic straws more than anything.
Shouldnt need a particular reason for it, but there being a global pandemic thats left large parts of the population with cardiovascular issues is as good a reason as there probably ever will be to crack down on this shit.
Personally I think it would be downright libertarian if people were allowed to still smoke just as long as they went through disinfection afterwards so they dont reek of tobacco and give me a massive headache from them passing by.
Americans will be locked in their houses from 12am to 7am, nobody will work until 8, and they’ll have to just cope.
Tobacco is a shitty drug and should be opposed on utilitarian grounds.
Soz second hand smokers if you've got underlying health conditions, I wanna puff on some airborne tar that gives me no positive effects apart from easing my addiction
Having lived in Mexico for a while... This is gonna piss off a looooot of people. The only nationality I've seen that smokes more than Mexican people is Italians and Chinese people (on vacation, haven't been to China yet)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco_consumption_by_country it doesn't seem like latin america consumes that much tobacco, with the exception of argentina
the problem is the gulf between older people and young people. latin american countries started fighting tobacco use later than most places in Europe but had way better results and all of a sudden. down here we banned all smoking indoors. older people were of course pissed off but it's not like people feel entitled to smoking so they eventually get over it.
Hm I see... Mine was just anecdotal observation, but it is true that in a lot of countries in LATAM you don't see many spaces for smokers. Mexico was the first place where I saw an ashtray on the outside of every office building, or ashtrays on outside tables, which is a rare sight, even in Argentina.
oh down in brazil we still have lots of those too, they come built in with the garbage trays.
I didn't see that many people smoking when I lived in SP though. And cigarettes were EXPENSIVE as shit (but then again everything is expensive in Brazil compared to other countries)
the younger generations (i mean people in their 30s and younger) seem to have given it up all together. if an older person in their 60s is pissed off at sin taxes or the prohibition it mostly comes from a different place, i think. it's more 'ey look i'm an addict give me a break i already made sure my kids won't smoke, at least let me smoke in the garage or outdoors' rather than 'goddamn nanny state ruining my freedom'.
Chinese people in China also smoke heavy but don't discount the power of the French
Surprisingly, :anti-italian-action: smoke way more than French, from what i've seen.
Idk about Italy even, I just went to Paris once and had my mind reshaped
Chinese people do smoke a lot. It is more noticeable since no one respect no smoking area since there is no real enforcements.
Gonna be some really really grumpy smokers that can't find anywhere to smoke lol.
when the state acts
I have been reliably informed that this is communism.
You know what I hate the most? Being stuck walking behind some twat that's smoking a cigarette :monke-rage:
I gotta be places in the same direction so I guess I just gotta huff down on the death sticks too
If only I had actual laser eyes :sicko-laser:
You can still buy smokes lmao it's not prohibition to be banned from blowing a cloud of poison at random people out in the public park.
AKA Mexico tries to stop you literally forcing other people to smoke whether they like it or not
It will also see the total ban on the promotion, advertising and sponsorship of tobacco products. The sale and use of e-cigarettes and vapes are also due to face new restrictions
this is cool
ban on smoking in public places, including hotels, beaches and parks
that's kinda fucked
You will inhale the poison, you will learn to love the taste of smoke and burning tar
I don't think it's fucked. Second hand smoking is harmful.
I'm one of them social smokers that smokes when they're drunk at a party and I'd be completely fine with the government banning smoking in public places and bars/restaurants. You're still free to smoke in your home.
Maybe it's a bit excessive to ban it from absolutely all open spaces like big parks and stuff but banning it anywhere a decent chunk of people passes every day is fine IMO.
