Shaggy is descended from/based on a TV show character played by Bob Denver (also played Gilligan on Gilligan's Island) named Maynard G Krebs - which was a parody character that mockingly gestured towards Eugene V Debs for the 'boomers' of that era.

The series inspired the creators of Scooby-Doo, whose four human characters were modeled from characters on the series, with Shaggy Rogers being inspired by Maynard.
If Shaggy's fam canonically owns lots of property, that's probably why he doesn't hang out with them very often.
It's really funny his middle name is Gwalter and the G is silent. Good joke.
:very-intelligent: Does your detective gang or does it not take bounties for gas/food/living/drug expenses?
:expert-shapiro: Checkmate, liberals.
I think it works surprisingly well. Fred and Daphne have, like, normal people eyes. Shaggy has beady lil rat eyes, and Velma and Scooby have exaggerated cartoony eyes. Usually that would clash but here I think it just works with each of their designs
for those not in the know: Shaggy was based on a character Maynard G. Krebs, who was in turn named after (but not really based on) Eugene V. Debs
Come to think of it, I think "Mister" Eugene Krabs from spongebob might be named after Eugene V. Debs as well, which is fucked up, since Krabs is a miserly petit bourgeois restaurant owner
Shaggy is also canonically vegan, even if its portrayed inconsistently. One of his longest running voice actors was vegan and he insisted on it carrying over to the character.
Are they talking about home ownership or are they talking about private property ownership as capital?
