Landlord thought they could pull a kickdoor and discovered there were consequences. Hope Watson gets off with the most lenient punishment but I doubt RI will let that happen.

[Landlord] and two other people, including her brother, had climbed some stairs to approach the man's apartment door, which someone kicked in during the exchange, Lapatin said.

"There were some weapons we believe that were in the possession of the people entering," said Lapatin, who did not specify who was armed.

Way to bury the fucking lead providence journal, this should read "Man defends self from armed vigilante squad"

Passive voice and we know exactly what weapon the guy had (a scary ghost gun!) but every action and weapon of the attackers remains shrouded in mystery

The craziest part is the local cops would surely have been happy to perform the eviction for her if it was a legal eviction, that's like half of what they do. The landlord had terminal Americabrain (tm) and wanted to do it themselves, illegally.

We noticed the door experience a kinetic event, prior to the unit dweller opening fire. Then I tactically ascertained several bullets entering my chest cavity.

They believe they have the right to use violence to control their private property. They're also big mad the police don't give a shit about small fish and will tell them to take it to court.

Rhode Island is so liberal that they've still not legalized recreational weed. Connecticut legalized it first, and Connecticut is stuffed to the gills with gated communities of old money assholes!

Connecticut is just strip malls, gated communities, insurance office parks and bedroom villages for other states. It's worse than a bad place, it's a non-place.

…I was going to mention Mystic, but Mystic Village is just a significantly nicer strip mall.

the maoist uprising against the landlords was the largest and most comprehensive proletarian revolution in history, and led to almost totally-equal redistribution of land among the peasantry

Watson is charged with possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence, two counts of possession of a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds, possession of a ghost gun and possession of a rifle barrel of less than 16 inches.

first one is maybe :yikes: rest of those are fake crimes although he's pretty fucked if that last one is an NFA violation

'crime of violence' could just be the bogus crime of resisting arrest that cops like to stack, but yeah

Afaik they sometimes count just having a gun in a city as being a "crime of violence" even if no violence ever occurs- it's how liberals say they're stopping violent crime when they stop and frisk black men. Could be anything.

Even if he hurt someone in the past, he still has the right to defend himself against his armed landlord

Instant hall of famer for tortured crime articles. The art of interspersing direct police narrative of this guy's supposed evil crimes between the passive voice of euphemistically describing an armed raid by a landleach and their goons is really something. It'd also be an F as a freshman's writing assignment, but that's not why they hire these people..

Edit: Somehow this is actually the best title (even though 'armed encounter' could sound like he just started shooting unarmed people) other 'local' 'news' outlets have reported this as "Providence landlord shot and killed while trying to evict tenant" or "Man accused of killing building's landlord." I have less than 0 sympathy for these local police and property stenographers. :stalin-gun-1:
