it is fine like it is monday and who cares being productive all days is capitalist propaganda we all need sometime to make some soft pretzels or whataver

Every monday at work I get more sick and more sad with my job so i'm sitting around being unproductive. Which would be fine normally but I don't want to dump more work on my coworkers.

I want to transition my careers focus but my manager is ghosting me about training materials for me to get better at something we plan on going after in the near future. So i'm browsing jobs in what I want to do and I dont know whats worse, doing something cool with a megalocorp and not owning my hobby projects, or working at a pencil pushing small company doing something that makes me feel like death, or getting a loan to buy an excavator and digging trenches.

I just want a remote job that doesn't make me sell my soul or feel like i'm receiving a treppaning, so I can find a place thats semi rural and do woodworking.

I'm privileged in my position but i'm selling out my moral foundations for a job to pay off my student loans. How can I be so sad when people have it so much worse? but how can I tell myself how I feel isn't legitimate?

Bud like it is fine to feel sad first of all like things are not going great all around, and you are not forbidden of being sad of how things are going because people have it worse, i don't know what you should do like telling you to go find a job that makes you happy on this day and age seem like mockery so i don't know just really understand it is fine to be sad, as long you want too, as long as you are aware that you will eventually have to deal with how you feel and what makes you feel that way

        Thanks.

I would like to find a new job, I did just sign a new lease so maybe I could find a remote job that could give me time to GTFO of my area, because anything here will be more of the same.

I think I have a near impossible goal of both enjoying my work and making enough to be comfortable. An old friend of mine and I have a small plan of starting a business that probably won't make money, but I've been doing free time hobby work thats directly related and I enjoy the work so much. If the little company doesn't work out, I'm sure I could use the experience to get a job at a decent place.

I was watching some breadtube thing after work, and while i've heard the phrase "alienated labor", I didn't truly connect it all together until like, today.

I read some engels a while back explaining alienated labor and my brain kept it in a "oh the woodworker doesn't get the same satisfaction out of the furniture factory" context, rather than my actual context.

I'm at work right now. I work for a family-owned upscale retail clothing and gift shop. My mother has owned and operated with her business partner for the past 25+ years. I've worked here for about the past 17 or so.

Before COVID, we had about 15 people on payroll; now it's just the three of us working. We're open for six hours, six days a week, with only Sunday off. It's been like that since we re-opened back in the end of May. Pretty soon after we re-opened, we were in contact with landlords about what to do regarding rent given we were closed for two months with zero income, what sort of relief or understanding was available. We were told that there would be no relief or negotiation, that all rent was due in full, and that frankly they were offended we would ask. They came around pretty quickly and we have negotiated a much more favorable lease. The absolute incompetence this management company has shown during the entire renegotiating process is nothing short of stunning, but that's been their track record during our entire relationship.

I've been in the long-term process of trying to radicalize the owners over the past few years. Fortunately, both because it's a family business and I'm an integral part of it, they're forced to listen to me. It's working to a certain extent; they both fully recognize that there's no ethical consumption in a capitalist world, which has made it clear to them how hollow a lot of the rhetoric coming from some vendors is. Both of them fully realize just how frivolous the business we operate is in the whole scheme of things. I've been calling a downturn like this for at least the past couple of years, which has seemingly left us better prepared than other businesses. Every day I come home drained and exhausted though, and the one day off I've been getting I spend much of sleeping.

I'm glad you've had some minor success with your radicalisation attempts and it's had some positives. I know from close family that retail is even tougher than usual at the moment. Solidarity comrade. :red-fist:

Only day off this week. Helping the kids through school, maybe go to the park, clean some guns, lay in bed and watch trash tv the rest of the day. Bliss.

I was going to go and tend my allotment, but the weather has been crap and I have very little motivation today. Mostly I've been touching up the paint in the bathroom, playing a bit of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, cooking dinner and now I'm watching The Social Dilemma on Netflix. So far it's an alright doc on the manipulative design of social media interspersed with the... fucking... corniest dramatized cutaways.
