IR majors are a mixed bag in my country because you get the neolibs that suck off America, people who want Central America to become a political bloc, and right-wing nationalists that think Guatemala should be in charge of a Union through force.

My class is full of people who believes the Uyghur genocide stuff is real while advocating trade with China lol. When I said how come all Muslim orgs said there is no genocide, they said about how Muslim nations just want to trade with China.

It's in Indonesia so I know we can't be openly commies but even the government and Muslim orgs said the Uyghur genocide isn't real. Bizarrely in my private high school (was there because my parents are afraid I get bullied in regular schools because they thought I'm autistic), my expat English teacher just played Thomas Sankara documentary and asked us to make an essay about him. :sankara-salute:

Sounds like the idea of Muslims not caring about Muslims is just your classmates projecting their own desire to trade with China despite the alleged genocide onto everyone else...

They praised Deng for being "capitalist" while calling Xi a dictator for repressing Jack Ma lol.

Seriously I used to hear praises about China in this country because they arrest and execute corruptors, including high ranking ones, but now because China targeted an asshole billionare that people stan for some reason suddenly Xi Jinping bad?

The same Jack Ma who turned out to have been on vacation in Tokyo eating Wagyu steaks a few months later?

What kind of shithouse dictatorship disappears its enemies by sending them on overseas holidays?

I think a lot of countries believed that China was only Communism in name and secretly capitalist. Then they were surprised when Xi began to show his more leftist side.

right-wing nationalists that think Guatemala should be in charge of a Union through force.

Lmao far right nationalists must have such a hard time in countries that are objectively not that powerful.

They usually shift their focus on bullying Belize and jailing leftists and lgbt in their spare time, so not really.

Should also add that a lot of it comes from past wars where we demolished El Salvador and Honduras several times, sometimes all at once. We may be weak, but the other countries are even weaker and only three of them (Belize, Costa Rica, and Panama) hold power through their daddies (uk and usa) defending them. We would most likely be able to beat Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua if we absolutely wanted to. It wouldn't be the first or second time it's happened.

Maybe he's a student writing a paper, skimming a few books to decide which one looks like the best source for him to read as research?

As a college freshmen when I was young and stupid, I remember actually thinking Hitler was this diabolical philosophical genius who was able to successfully wield psychology to drive an entire nation to war, so I did an assignment on him.

Imagine my disappointment when I discovered just how mediocre the actual man was. Mein Kampf was especially the eye-opener since it wasn't anything you couldn't find in a chan board.

Seems pretty plausible. The types who actually love Hitler aren't too much into reading in my experience.

I was thinking because he wanted to gloss over for citations on some assignment.

But... he doesn't even have a laptop or notebook with him.
