The controversies seem to be the main thing people talk about with this game, even if they are played for laughs

Also, what's the Will Smith thing referenced here

Smith is a Scientologist and he and his wife funded a Scientology school disguised as a normal private school

But most people don’t know about that, so it’s probably about the slap

Said this in the Mega but I'm really not sure how Dunko intended this video to come off so I'm really not sure how to take it. I guess it's better than just unironically doing a video about the game and ignoring the controversy, but I would have liked it more if Donkey Kong appeared at the end and said "trans rights".

I interpreted it as saying "lots of games are 'controversial' so people are overreacting", which is probably worse than just playing it.

Yeah that's why I don't really know what to feel, because I totally get this interpretation but I can also see it being more of a "this industry is absolutely terrible and always has been", but it's ambiguous which is why I would have liked a clarifying statement in there.

I doubt that’s the meaning of the video considering he’s played most of those games and reviewed them normally despite the controversies.

I'm mostly going off the fact that the controversy surrounding The Last of Us 2 was for having a muscular woman, which suggests it's less "video game industry bad" and more "controversy dumb". I could be wrong, but dunkey seems to have South Park style "apolitical" centrist opinions so I'm not super surprised his take would be "actually everyone involved is stupid". The distinction mostly doesn't matter, because it's clear that either way he's neither supporting nor condemning trans people. And tbh I'd expect nothing more from a lucky dumb cishet white guy who plays video games for a living.

To be fair, he went pretty far into support of the last of us 2. Dunkey usually is usually pretty inclusive and pro labor, so IDK how this is going. Have to see if he says anything else.

Why is Gex making a reference to the plot of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in a Chinese accent? While the movie's intro sequence takes place in Shanghai, the whole thing with the Shankara stones (called Chakra stones here- boy, I hope someone got fired for that blunder) happens in India

It really makes you FEEL like you're TERFing

IDK, I know he knows it's controversial, but there are way braver and more productive alternatives than stating that something is controversial in itself, beyond evoking a chortle from your audience. It's wasteful pedantic shit, IMO.

Yeah, there's a hint of cowardice in how the joke could be how common abuse is in the video game industry and how bad that is, or it could be a complaint that if abuse by someone involved with development then no one could play any games (except Spider-Man 2, of course).

Yeah, but you asked and that is the most likely answer considering Last of Us 2 being "woke" was enough to drop it in the bit

Did Smith face any real backlash for the slap thing? As dumb as it was, the Last of Us 2 freakout was a real thing

He was banned from future Oscars, but I'll believe it when I see it.
