It also added that Chen was paid more than 20,000 yuan ($3,000) to attend the school event, which was aimed at motivating students.

Imagine blowing up your entire career for $3000.

Although, if the guy is truly savvy, he'll drop that money on a first class ticket to NYC, show up hat-in-hand to guest on the Tucker Carlson show, and immediately start bringing down six-to-seven figures doing the "China Bad!" circuit on Western Cable TV.

In the post, a video shows a student interrupting Chen while he spoke. The student is seen rushing onstage, grabbing the microphone, and arguing with Chen. “We’re studying for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation,” the student is heard yelling.

SixthTone does not appear to link the original social media post, so I don't think there's any reference to the video.

The article says they've taken down the social media posts so it's probably gone for good now.

EDIT: Guess it's still there, props to /u/lascaux, I wonder what he said that made the room laugh so hard.

He said Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese nation then they all started laughing, so idk. I think he was joking that the professor wanted to make China greedy and capitalist for the Great Rejuvenation to work and that is what brought laughter, its the only thing I could think of.

The voiceover after said 'His three points are very good, why must students have to deal with such things? To follow up on this matter, our competence department has taken this matter very seriously and we have investigated and taken care of this matter.'

It's a time-honored grift common among fundies too: "I was once an atheistic devil worshipper but now I'm saved!" :soypoint-1: :brrrrrrrrrrrr: :soypoint-2:

In an interview, Chen told The Paper that he was “joking” about the topics of gender, nationality, and race during an impromptu talk while warming up before his speech and was misunderstood by the students.

Funny to see "I-it was just a joke! I said contemptable things as a silly little joke!" is a universal backpedal among all reactionaries.

    don't tell the patsocs

I suggest a different strategy: bullying the patsocs with this as much as possible.

I was pretending to be stupid energy

If i were him i would double down on the opinion, crying about state oppression and emigrate to Canada, work for Epoch Time and whine even more how Chinese society is full of kids acting like red guards and how if the west is not doing something about Marxism, there will fall into maoism

"Unless you have investigated a problem, you will be deprived of the right to speak on it. Isn't that too harsh? Not in the least. When you have not probed into a problem, into the present facts and its past history, and know nothing of its essentials, whatever you say about it will undoubtedly be nonsense. Talking nonsense solves no problems, as everyone knows, so why is it unjust to deprive you of the right to speak?"
