Almost certainly DCS, but yeah flight simmers are distinct as being on average quite a bit older, also because it is a very expensive hobby, keyboard and $50 sticks don't cut it.

Sure, you're having fun, but have you considered plugging in a handful of peripherals and remapping controls?

Best cheapish add-on for flight games for me has been head tracking with the Smoothtrack app on my phone. Really fiddly, though.

you are my favorite soviet rank 1/2 fighters to fly in war thunder :rat-salute-2:

i do it with a keyboard and mouse though :curry-space:

Not sure if they have them in war thunder, but the 23mm and 37mm cannon alternate loadouts in il-2 sturmovik: great battles are great.

i do it with a keyboard and mouse though

Warthunder does have the IL-2-37 which is the 37mm and the ShKAS - but it is the slowest IL-2 with a gunner in-game. thing is still a floating tank though with all those steel plates around the cockpit and an excellent way to suffer through war thunder's currency grind for new planes at rank 2-3 which are the ideal ones for air battles anyways. I actually prefer the 1942 though with the smaller cannons and no turret or gunner - no one expects the IL-2 1942 to drop its 250kg payload, glacially climb to like like 1000m, and then just harass fighters by bleeding speed to turn out of their fire and hopefully cause them to whiff into an AAA or god forbid a teammate that actually pays attention.

Thrift store flight stick and used rudder pedals from eBay and you're good to go, track ir would be nice though but yeah. Grown up toys

That is hilarious. Banned from a flight sim for being an asshole until they get a job.

As far as I know, we don't know what the guy did to be considered an asshole.

It could have been something as petty as "I think it's a good thing that there's a toggle to skip pre-flight systems checks." :wojak-nooo:

I mean it obviously sucks in the moment if you work a job all day and some kid comes and slaps you on a videogame because they can play 24/7, but it's just a fucking game lol. Grow up.

This is the terminal stage of "let people enjoy things." It can be summarized as "you must suffer if you criticize the thing I enjoy." :wojak-nooo:

tbh I don't think they are cancelling a critic of the game or anything - just a shitty player in their server so more like "you must suffer if you ruin the thing i enjoy" which is still laughable because it is a flight sim server - but I don't have context :shrug-outta-hecks:

Amazingly funny confluence of :gamer gulag: and :discord-mod: where I am thankfully so removed from either side that I can laugh at both.

Without further context, it's unclear why the person was banned, but got the "you must be a neet without a real job" :grillman: browbeating about it, which more often than not is done as a knee-jerk reaction toward anyone rocking the boat. In a flight sim forum, it's plausible, maybe even likely, because the flight sim itself was criticized somehow.

Ever see how some people go into a foaming rage if someone proposes an easy mode, or even disability accessibility options, in a Real True Hardcore G!mer No Handholding Prepare To Die GOTY Edition(tm) game?

EDIT: Or worse, ever see that reaction that some Epic G!mers have when the corporation itself is criticized for harboring sex pests or otherwise mistreating its workers to get the consumer goods out faster?

In both cases, I've seen exactly that sentiment there, almost word for word, as a putdown.

The treat defenders are back in full force everywhere lol. I think the failue of the Hogwarts legacy "boycott" has emboldened them.

Thankfully it's mainly a purely online phenomenon with no bearing on the real world.

        I wish that were true.

Every time a city is set on fire because a soccer team lost (or won), or when favelas are bulldozed and people driven further into poverty to make disposable Olympics eyesores, I see otherwise.

EDIT: Or, as a more directly online example, whenever someone dies because a SWAT team was called on them because an Epic G!mer was that offended by an online opinion about a consumer product, I also see otherwise.

          That's beyond treat defence though.

Sports fans fighting each other is due to deep rivalries with history behind it that often go way beyond just kicking a ball around. Stuff like Barcelona and Catalan independence, Lazio and fascism, Rangers and being British unionists, etc. All of this is still horrific behaviour and part of why I don't enjoy going to stadiums or fan events, I remember having to hide my team's scarf as a kid after we won the local derby. I also don't have the money in the first place.

When a country hosts a sporting event, it's to show that they're open for business to the "international community", consequences be damned. Think Germany 2006 after German reunification, Beijing 2008 to put China out there as a superpower, South Africa 2010 after the end of apartheid 16 years after the end of apartheid. It's all a political stunt.

I think all that is different to some culture warrior buying 10 copies of the Harry Potter game or crying about the last of us TV series. Thats what I meant by treat defence. With sports, treat defence to me would be something like defending legal reckless play because it's entertainment. Like arguing for players to be less protected in football. Or wanting more crashes in racecar events.

EDIT: Or, as a more directly online example, whenever someone dies because a SWAT team was called on them because an Epic G!mer was that offended by an online opinion about a consumer product, I also see otherwise

Okay that's a good example of the treat defenders doing real world harm, that definitely sucks.
