Yuri!!! On ICE (despite the ironic name it is actually yaoi)
i am not held back by something as transient as 'author intent'
all anime i like is my favorite gay anime
Banana Fish or Given, not sure. Banana Fish is epsteinpilled, but Given let's me vicariously experience having a cool guitarist bf.
It's honestly hard to call this a "gay anime" because despite certain characters clearly being gay, that really doesn't have any effect on anything for pretty much the entire show, and it's only made explicit at the absolute last second.
It's also hard for me to recommend it considering how much it indulges in :libertarian-approaching: anime tropes, particularly regarding sexualization of high schoolers. Of course, it's making a point about those tropes, somewhere beneath the layers of :soypoint-1: butts! :soypoint-2: but it's difficult for me to articulate how that makes it okay lol
Edit: To be clear, I think Kill la Kill is good, and that moment at the end when The Gay™ happens made me go YOOOOOOO :quagsire-pog: but it's still a very hard show to recommend
Also commenting on tropes doesn’t prevent it from using them quite conventionally and benefitting financially from doing so.
Yup, that's what I meant when I said it "indulges" in them. When the camera pans around to focus on the 17 year old girl's ass it's still inviting you to stare at her ass regardless of what message it may be trying to send about such camerawork in anime
Such a wholesome show. Great visuals and music as well.
