I could just see 2004 Newgrounds.

It was a fun movie, but god damn.

Also imagine getting paid to be thrown down the stairs for a movie.

The explicit origin of the John Wick movies is that Keanu's long time stunt double wanted to show off his skills and art and play with a serious budget entirely focused on stylish actions sequences and Keanu said "Yeah cool let's do it". The story is literally just an excuse to string together tightly choreographed fight scenes.

Oh I understand that. It's fun as hell, I'm not criticizing it

It was pretty clear from the plot of the first movie thst eas the point and that's why it rules. Doing more fucks it up.

My mom is in her 70's and just asked me to take her out to see this one (she usually goes out to see plays at the theater, never at the movies).

We've watched all previous ones together, JW3 at the movies as well. I remember JW3 was so violent it made me uneasy and people were walking out...not my mom lol.

It really is uncomfortable in parts. A little too real

There was one where the guy had a rocket katana and I hated that I liked it.

What a great idea. Let's do a gritty live action reboot of Xiao Xiao.

        Shock was better.

Xiao Xiao is like literally John Wick though.

Honestly: in an era so dominated by the ai scripted marvel superhero script and production formula I think it's frankly inspiring to see action film alternatives that completely eschew it.

    But yeah..it's basically a live action stickfight/madness combat movie...and that's awesome I think.

Somebody said it was a great adaptation of of a video game. Not that it is based on a specific bmvideo game but that it is based on video games itself. They said that about the northman as well. There is something to that I think.

I can see the video game influence. It's really cool to see the different angles too

Nothing cements the "John Wick is like watching someone play a video game" vibe more than the elite, armoured high table commandoes who take several head shots to kill

Also imagine getting paid to be thrown down the stairs for a movie.

That's just Rich Evans in Mike Stoklasa's old student films, except he didn't get paid

The Matrix is just an edgy flash animation with a budget.

Ehh, there is a very specific type of cinematography being referenced here that the matrix doesn't have.

But seriously though, the matrix is a bit more direct in its philosophical messaging.

It's fun but compared to the tightness of the first film I feel the sequels overstay their welcome. Goons waiting their turn, Keanu killing guys three or four times over, slightly-too-much worldbuilding. The Raid is the same vibe but I think a better execution, one of the guys was brought in on JW3 for that second to last fight as well.

it was pretty fun I liked how the villain was always doing the most stereotypical aristocrat thing I can think of whenever they cut to him

The first one is such a perfect movie that the sequels have thus far left me disappointed.
