"Yes we get federal funding but it's only a little bit" + the comments are declaring Twitter has finally become fascist

If there's not already there needs to be a website called like Radio Free America or something that satirically turns the spin back on America, I think it would not only be funny but also potentially useful in helping people realize how the corporate news shapes their worldview

Liberals were all in denial about it being funded by the Kochs back in the late 2010s too, denying it even as NPR itself regularly gave the disclaimer that they recieved Koch funding on relevant stories.

Also, regardless of funding sources, name one major American news outlet that isn't naked pro-US propaganda. I'll wait.

Libs would be see the Epoch Times is state funded media and be like, “surprised to see China is allowing dissent in the papers it gives money to”

Where's the lie? AP and Reuters, along with all news sources that get their stories from them, should have the same label.

lmao remember when Elon first bought it and stuck the state media tag on Ukrainian and European news and people got pissed about that? Like I get he's doing it for bad reasons but I'd much rather the tags be equally-applied than be only applied to non-American sources.

Notably, however, Twitter has not slapped that label on several media organizations that are substantially funded by government. The Voice of America, the BBC and the U.S. military newspaper Stars and Stripes, among others, continue on Twitter without being designated as “state-affiliated” — a phrase with strong connotations of compromised editorial independence.

tbf they should probably get on that

WaPo and NYT should get it too (given how much they repeat Stat Dept memos).

No no no you don’t understand. They’re owned by people who bribe the politicians, staffed by people who have had leadership positions in a revolving door of regulatory agencies, get giant chunks of their funding from government grants, and they regularly print government-issued press releases uncritically… but the government considers all of these organizations to be legally distinct, so it’s fine.

Centre-right legacy-media institution who recently changed their slogan to "Democracy Dies in Darkness" has opinions about dubious tags
