Reminder that the US used to shit on the USSR by calling it a gerontocracy because some leaders were 69~70 years old.

At least the Soviets had a halfway legit excuse - WWII decimated the generation that would have stepped up into leadership roles in the 70s and 80s.

Now we have a president who probably needs amphetamines to get through a 10 minute speech and senators that are literally exhibiting symptoms of dementia

Depressing, climate change-related doomer thought in the spoiler text:

    spoiler

Back in like 2019-2020, we heard a lot about how we had until the end of the decade to do something about climate change before too much carbon was already baked in. Biden wins, then he will have essentially presided over being president the entire decade and will of course have done nothing about it. Socialism was our only hope anyway, but still... I feel pretty bummed out when I think about that.

Even if it’s hopeless it still feels better to try and fail then to just watch as everything catches fire. At least we’d know the failure isn’t our fault.

last election i identified as a "democratic socialist" and :i-voted: as "harm reduction". im gonna get so much shit from libs in my life for not voting this time. but "vote blue no matter who" takes all the power from ur vote bc it doesnt matter what these demons do in office. biden didnt even keep his promise of "nothing will fundamentally change" as we plunge deeper into fascism. im not voting for anyone to the right of bernie. but im preaching to the choir here. just practicing the justifications i have to use to keep the libs from screaming at me

Bernie's too old, he could die in office if we elected him, the job is too physically demanding, his mind isn't sharp enough anymore, the Democratic party needs new blood, give others a chance to run, he's out of touch with young people, he'll make the US a gerontocracy,

The irony is that Bernie would've picked a VP who was actually popular and charismatic so even if he did die in office it would have only solidified the power of the left for up to a decade as long as he made it past the first term

No one likes Brandon or Kamala and all they'll do is empower the right

We didn't get the codification of Roe v. Wade like he said he would, we didn't get the repeal of capital punishment like he said, we didn't get marijuana decriminalization like his campaign promised, we didn't get universal pre-k or 2 years of free community college, didn't get the public option or any meaningful healthcare reform I can remember, DURING A PANDEMIC MIND YOU. I don't remember any significant immigration reform, I don't think Build Back Brandon is quite the silver bullet to this country's infrastructure issues, and he doesn't really show any sense of urgency for the escalating genocide of queer folk in right-wing states.

But hey yeah sure I'll vote for him I guess.

Wrong! About a month ago he and Trudeau streamlined the deportation process for asylum-seekers who cross the US/Canada border!

Also it wasn't really covered in the media much but Biden made Trump's Title 42 even more harsh and draconian where the border patrol agents were allowed to allow or deny asylum claims based on short interviews without involving the courts

Weakened from age and disease, suffering from dementia, prone to irrational outbursts, throws a tantrum if things don't go 100% their way, locked into old habits and unable to change with the times, racist, sexist, and a slave to Wall Street.

Joe Biden is absolutely the right man to lead America. He truly embodies the spirit of the country in the 2020s.

Well, on the plus side, I won't have to explain why I'm not voting for him to the libs in my life, already went through all that in 2020.

I assume Bernie won't run then, saves me the trouble of temporarily registering as a Dem to vote in their primaries, too.
