I call this “context flattening”. Complaining about the morality of a general trend of events to deflect away from the specifics of a current event, usually because the person doing it is implicated by those specifics. Happens a lot with “cancel culture”. Like, literally list out in your head all the situations which people have referred to as someone being “cancelled”. The context is abstracted away to make this seem like a Thing That Happens. It’s a complete construction.
