He justifies flying alone in first class because of the cost, and the fact that our kids (12 and 16) might feel alone if I were to travel in first with him and leave them in the rear cabin. I feel that this is unfair
:michael-laugh:
What's the point of treating your wife like shit? Honestly if you hate her that much, why marry?
Bad movie actor voice: "It's not about the relationship. It's about power."
I must have stolen that from a very bad movie except it was probably "It's not about sex. It's about power."
Like I know I'm supposed to find it funny but to me it's just sad and depressing.
It's very dark. I can't believe how many American women hate themselves, allow their husbands (or boyfriends) to treat them like dirt, and they hate other women. And for republican women - that's basically the norm.
:so-true: "it's her fault for letting the man treat her like that, why doesn't she just leave?!"
- least soy nytimes reader
:joker-che: "It's not about the money, it's about sending a message"
"Everything is about sex, except sex. Sex is about power."
Cuz thats what straight people are supposed to be doing. Most people marry the first person they somewhat get along, due to social pressure.
Me: unfazed, relaxed in first class getting ready to enjoy my treats
You: Seething, boiling mad in coach
I'd be willing to become the NYT ethicist at 1/5th what they are paying the current guy. I can work at an incredibly fast rate so it would be the easiest job and paycheck ever. "Divorce his ass," ~8 seconds.
The "ask the ethicist" guy is a philosopher with a Wikipedia page.
Kwame Akroma-Ampim Kusi Anthony Appiah FRSL (born 8 May 1954) is a British American philosopher and writer who has written about political philosophy, ethics, the philosophy of language and mind, and African intellectual history. Appiah was the Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy at Princeton University, before moving to New York University (NYU) in 2014. He holds an appointment at the NYU Department of Philosophy and NYU's School of Law. Appiah was elected President of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in January 2022.
Could he be given fake situations/questions? Sure.
Could he be given fake situations/questions?
Answering fake questions sums up philosophy nicely tbh
In that case Appiah might be the best philosopher who has ever lived. Or ever will live.
Knowing his work, I can't help but think this is a little beneath him. The grift is excellent, though. Maybe he makes up the questions to justify his 10's of thousands a year consulting fees for the NY Times
he makes up the questions
Haha. I thought of them making up questions for him. But I didn't consider that he's the only liar. In fact - that makes a lot more sense.
I don’t think our kids would mind if they were in economy plus and my husband and I sat together in first class.
White feminist vibes. She doesn't care about equality for all, only that she's on the winning side of the inequality.
I genuinely wonder how she'd react if husband said that she's right and sat in economy with her and the kids in the future.
In fairness, coach really isn't that bad when you're four feet tall and less than 20" at the waist. The real problem with kids alone in coach is that they're still just kids - they get scared, they get bored, they do kid things because they're kids. If airplanes had, like, two small seats flanking a bigger seat then families could fly without the adult being crushed to death in the budget-tier seating arrangements.
I did manage to somehow have a flight upgrade me to first class. Only thing that was really that cool was the leg room
They keep giving you less and less leg room. I’m so fucking cramped in flights these days compared to like 10 years ago. My knees always butt up against the seat in front of me. Genuinely dislike flying now because of it
I honestly don’t even mind flying except for the leg room issue. I’m 6’3” and sitting dead upright in my seat my knees can still brush the seat ahead sometimes. It sucks.
I got bumped to business class for free once, the legroom was nice but I'm also the kind of person who doesn't mind being squished so I felt like it was wasted on me.
I remember when they handed me the hot towels and I was bewildered on what to do. I didn't eat anything because there were no vegan options which sucked.
Holy fuck, we need to build more trains.
Car dependency and flights as the only other option is tall people discrimination.
This is my story and I'm begging the mods to remove this to stop doxing me but they won't respond.
I dunno. I didn't see it. I saw a tweet and the joke wrote itself. But I wouldn't be surprised if somebody had nearly exactly the same idea.
The editors and the publisher of that rag don't have a sense of humor like ours so I know it's not a bit. But, man, is it a bit.
