They should sell the White House to Blackrock and start renting it. If you can't afford to own, you can't afford to own.

Selling the gold over an artificial deadline seems like a bad idea long term, but I'm no economist

It'd be vaguely funny if some Alex Jones type started a rumour that the amount they were planning on selling was astronomically larger than it actually is, and the bottom falls out of the gold market in less time than it takes the feds to finish the paperwork for the sell order.

    Bit idea

The GOP demands Biden repeal Obamacare or we default. Biden hems-and-haws for nearly two weeks. The day before the default deadline Biden finally says he'll do it. They are in a rooom with their signing pens. Biden looks like death warmed over. They sign the first part - repealing Obamacare. But when the debt limit is about to be signed - the GOP fucks him and says "You didn't give us enough cuts. Why do you hate America?"

The GOP then goes into the hallway to give a planned 30 minute meeting with the media that they say shows how anti-American Biden and the democrats are. And the US defaults.

If they sell the gold, I can only imagine how funny the reaction from the usual gold-standard-weirdoes will be.

There ain't no limit. It's Texas Hold 'Em.

Now that The White House has indicated

    1. It will negotiate over the debt ceiling
    2. It has no backup plans
    3. A default would be a disaster

Is there any limit on what the House GOP should aim for here, concession-wise?

The Dennis Hopper character takes hostages into the parking garage and then shoots all of them in front of Keanu.

          "You shot all the hostages."

"That was my goal. Shoot all the hostages."

          "That makes no sense."

"It does to me!" He releases the trigger on the stick control, kills Keanu, and escapes.

The remake of Speed only lasts 20 minutes.

You underestimate the willingness of the GOP to deliberately push the US over the fiscal cliff regardless of the outcome.

Which means, at this point, that Biden not minting the coin and obliterating the financial sector is the most revolutionary act since Emancipation.
