Fun game to play firework vs gun shots. Admittedly I never went to a gun range, more because of money than dislike of guns, maybe someone more experienced could tell me the difference of the sounds and how worried I should be.
Gunshots have a higher pitched component to them on top of the bang. Blanks fired out of a gun lack a lot of this component, but actual rounds have it. If you hear a crack, it's definitely a gunshot, but if you don't it doesn't mean it's not a gun.

Also handguns and rifles sound very different.
That being said, if we outlaw fireworks, how are we supposed to put a string of Black Cats in a coffee can and set it off outside a police station?
