The lame comedy was forgivable. Comedy is really hard to get right and they where task with making the Simspons last far beyond it's sell-by date but what is so much more infuriating is the blatant fanfiction. Marge and Ned having a affair, endless suicidal Moe plots, Comic Book Guys living breathing waifu etc
at this point you have to assume they're keeping it alive out of spite because they know as soon as they announce the end of the show, the overwhelming reaction will be "god, finally"

I think the clear delineation of when the Simpsons started sucking is when they started having celebrity cameos in the show's universe

Yeah guess you're right, I took a skim of the list of Simpsons guest stars and they had people playing themselves as a cameo as early as season two
Wow it's wild to think that The Simpsons ended in season 12. They really could've kept it going, but I'm glad they showed restraint to wrap it up cleanly.
