Lots of commonly used words stripped entirely of context end up neutral. No one probably thinks performative in "performative art" is negative.
Instant block for anyone who uses the word "bad" as a pejorative. "bad" is a neutral term. It can be a good thing if I'm "Bad at being evil"!
She is an activist NGO lobbyist, who seems to focus on abolition of prison for victims of abuse that kill or hurt their abusers. Mostly she seems to publish books and participate in education efforts.
I'm sure that she has been called 'performative' by newer, more radicalized, people in the prison abolition movement, who may or may not be extremely online. If this criticism of her is fair or in bad faith, idk, I don't know enough about her or her organization. There is 'performance' in writing or education, but it is more about whether this 'performance' benefits her more than the people she is trying to help.
For example, I have done volunteer work for several 'charity' organizations that spend all of their time and money polling the community about 'what do you think should be done in the community', but never actually get around to actually doing anything for the community. While it isn't on the surface 'performative', it becomes 'performative' with the lack of funds to follow-up those polls, and the fact that round after round of these polls seem to be done with no real coordination between groups with similar interests. The same could be said for this organization, but I don't know enough about them.

I had to google to check if my own brain hadn't melted. At Bluesky if there are a lot of comments - I usually can suss out the shorthand if I'm confused. But the site's shorthand is kind of weird for me. There are times I can read a post two or even three times in a row but I'm not sure of the tone of the pronouncement. Ironic? Unironic? Sort of ironic? Sometimes I just say in my head "What the fuck," and close the tab.
The funniest (as in sad-funny) is that Bluesky is like reddit without a downvote button. To get a similar "got you" dopamine hit people tend to block with reckless abandon. Not just liberals - leftists too. I assumed if I politely asked her what she meant - she'd block me.
I have no idea if this person is rightfully or wrongfully being pejoratively called performative, but there are people who say good things publicly (while being a net liberal or doing zero praxis IRL) and there are people (usually reactionaries) who notice any form of saying good things publicly and make bad faith accusations them of being the former (pejoratively performative).
We're done with that.
