In ties, the VP gets to cast the tie-breaking vote. I don't know how the filibuster factors into that, but you actually need 4 defections before you can get this senate to vote with the opposition.
I don't think that works on filibusters? I think it's just, if it gets 51 votes (for a nomination) or 60 (for legislation) the filibuster is ended, and if it doesn't it keeps going.
