Still mad how expensive copies of Operation Darkness are on the X360.

Edit: Appreciate all the posts from people that obviously aren't pirating 360 games to just "pirate it."

Some of us live in locations where the infrastructure just isn't good and we're working with computers way past their prime

Some people like to have physical copies of things for various reasons. Some things are hard to emulate, for one example. Also, it's bad for video game preservation and piracy for people to put a huge price tag or hold onto something that could be ROM dumped.

Like, I totally see where you're coming from and agree with you somewhat, but there is an argument to be had.

Also I dislike the idea of only rich people being allowed to have physical copies of something. Buying things second-hand isn't shilling for a company, in fact, companies have fought tooth and nail to stop it because they don't make any money from resales. This is why they want to switch over to digital-only and subscription services so badly.

Buying things second-hand at a thrift store used to be praxis. This grifting is very much capitalist bullshit and wouldn't happen without a greed incentive. It's ruining what used to be a cheap alternative for poor people who don't have a computer strong enough to emulate.

Buying things is virtually never praxis, just consumer lifestyle shit quite literally.

Agreed. Scalping treats, especially those that only serve a consumerist purpose with other means of acquiring, is hardly an atrocity.

Also, unpopular opinion, if a game was originally sold at ~$60, and you're still willing to pay a similar price for new games with similar content, then the old games are still worth the same amount. Especially since the biggest difference anymore is graphics, which aren't worth $50. It's a bit harder for me to make the same argument for the 16bit era but I could finesse it if I cared.

on the one hand, (if i'm buying) these people should be hanged
on the other, (if i'm selling) fuck it, grab that bag

    it's a nuanced issue

We've all gotta get that bread somehow. This seems like one of the less evil ways all things considered.

I would frisbee a $9 disc-only copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii into you neck for saying this to my face.

I couldn't try it on her because the decades of eBay sniping and quick Craigs List ad responses for video game lots containing expensive games have given her unbeatable reflexes.

I am begging people to pirate or asking those around them how to pirate these games.

There are some cases where un-dumped games selling for exorbitant prices is disgusting (especially when the seller is holding them hostage by intentionally not dumping the game), but people should absolutely be pirating almost everything else.

I do love that the 360 piracy scene just involved flashing your disc drive and buying a big spindle of good dual layer DVDs

Converted a number of friends to the dark side over that

Video game reseller in 2023? What? They are doing limited edition of software you can buy online?

It's a luxury entertainment product. It's not like she's a landlord. Xbox 360 piracy is too easy to be upset, you should be stealing these treats.

Wait OP this does not sound like scalping, this sounds like just... collecting and selling? or something?

Is she like buying out all the ebay listings of specific games and then jacking the price up?

considering our fondness for the name chapo, I'm pretty sure we support the cartels on this website.

i feel like you're over reacting. the company selling it to you for 60 bucks to begin with should have been considered scalping but most people don't view it like that. your gf is just someone trying to pay their bills. they're not hoarding water to sell during emergencies. it's just a thing someone with money who can afford it anyway is gonna buy. if someone can't afford it, oh no they wont be able to play the game on native hardware. wait and you can emulate it if you can't already.

it's the same for the ps5 scalpers. only well off people could've afforded it at the base price anyway so i couldn't really care less if for once those people got priced out of something or if they had to sacrifice a little more to get their entertainment. especially during that time when it came out.

That may all be so, but nobody who explains the economics of luxury goods arbitrage to a kid on their birthday is going to come out of that situation looking any good.
