Besides the horrifying parts (fascist conservative dictatorship, proscriptions, mass murder), it's hilarious to me because what Sulla did didn't even work; the post-Sulla settlement dissolved when Caesar crossed the Rubicon 30 years later.

In effect Musk is saying "we need to do mass murder to stem the liberal tide, but then get washed away by that very same tide within a generation," anyone with actual historical knowledge of this period would say this makes zero sense.

No Musk stan is capable of conceiving something as alien to them as 30 years in the future. They will just insist that the singularity will happen by them.

Old Kurzweilian definition of singularity was the birth of true AI, the point past which any prediction of the future was inherently impossible.

Now, it's, I dunno, when you can run all society off some techbroified algorithm.

I think the defining moment of it is supposed to be technology driving itself - ie the first true AI designs its own improvements, which designs its own improvements, etc etc faster than the speed that people can keep up and tech itself becomes the driving force of civilization instead of politics/material forces.

As a marxist, I postulate that the reason people focus on the idea of plugging themselves into The Matrix is because we all feel the pinch of society getting worse and imagining an escape is attractive to people.

It's freaky that even billionaires, especially billionaires, can not shut up about their own cravings to escape the system that benefits them most. :yea:

Just like how patriarchy hurts men, capitalism hurts the rich. I'm not sparing any tears for Elon Musk but he would absolutely be a happier and more fulfilled person under socialism.

          Old Kurzweilian definition

It was always :cope: and it involved that elder bazinga's grief about his father's death and his own desire to escape the same.

I've always considered "technological singularity" to mean a point where some technology exists that fundamentally changes humanity in a way that we can't really go back from, which just means we've had plenty of them so far. We're not ever going to forget about electricity, the same way we'll never forget about fire or writing. It's just too fucking useful.

Everyone knows that historical figures exist in a vacuum and can be evaluated purely based on a few qualities that I find attractive.

This current trend that has developed over the past ten years is totally analogous to these two things that happened hundreds of years apart during the Roman Empire :soypoint-2:

Of course that is wrong. On the other hand, stating that things are different now and have no precedent with the past because of the internet or whatever is the superior take :morshupls:

Elon is 51 so a fascist dictatorship wouldn't need to last longer than 30 years for him anyway.

Elon musk might want to read beyond the first paragraph, a lot of the richest people in Rome got proscribed just so the state could seize their assets

Elon is talking about launching off to mars and dropping a little bomb to destroy the launchpads so they can't get to him on mars but then they all die because elon cut costs on like, the system that makes piss into drinking water.

Since americans are utter asshole dipshits who don't know what fascists are, which Musk is one, barring that, imagine seeing the way he runs twitter laid bare for all to see and still wanting him to be your emperor on Mars.
