Its a pretty good movie.
A lot better than I thought it was going to be.
It's weird as fuck, but it's an interpretation of a franchise I prefer over something produced by a focus group.
I wouldn't call it good exactly, but a YouTube video essayist would have a great time analyzing King Koopa as the dictator of a cyberpunk dystopia.
Apparently Dennis Hopper was so intense on set that Mojo Nixon was genuinely terrified of him.
Haven't seen it, but I respect it for being an incredibly loose adaptation instead of a slavish one. IP isn't real, have fun with it.
If you ever come across it (or are bored enough to search it out) I'd say give it a shot.
Acting is good, dialog is good, its incredibly fast for a movie was was almost 2 hours long, I don't think any scene lasted so long that I got bored, lots of references to the video game franchise were were in the background and not dangled in front of my face like a handful of keys to a baby.
No it's not. But I do appreciate the effort to take a bold direction and move the franchise in a very unlikely direction at the time.
