no one is denying that, but its dishonest to not acknowledge the fact that this was only possible because of anti blackness in the asian american community. Asian americans are following the long tradition of american immigrants. Come to america, and treat black people here like subhuman garbage in order to benefit from white supremacy. every other non black community has done this to varying degrees except maybe native americans. the problem is anti black racism specifically.

One of the most disturbing ongoing demographic trends around where I live is non-black minorities expressing their hatred for black minorities to try to fit in better with white people. us-foreign-policy

They can try to do what every other European immigrant did in order to become white, but they will not succeed because of harsh geopolitical truths (the cold war with China and the resultant rise in Sinophobia). Going "I'm not Chinese I'm Korean" will not save them.

LOL is that a thing? It's like when Americans in Europe lie and say they're Canadian to avoid being harassed? That's hilarious.

All valid points for sure but for me personally criticizing a community that I am not part of that also faces discrimination (even if to a different degree) is just not something I’m comfortable with. I never want to give ammo or affirmation to fascists.

Sort of like how we have israel-cool

thats fair, I just think we need to be able to call out anti black racism in non black poc groups if we can even begin to have our dream rainbow coalition. the wound cant heal till we take out the knife, and that first requires acknowledging the knife is there. and yes of course there is xenophobia problem in the black community but if you look the the reason (decades of anti blackness from other poc) the path to healing becomes clear. of course if you're from neither of the discussed communities feel free to defer to others.

I don't understand why they don't switch to zip code instead? Would basically be admissions gerrymandering at that point and we all know how that's allowed lol

Because it would mean the universities would have to openly admit that neoliberalism is a fraud

As I understand it, the University of California system (where AA was abolished via a statewide vote in 2020) has basically switched to using economic background.

Yeah. The main issue being that poverty and race, while correlated, aren't perfect reflections of each other.

Add on top of that the UC system's funding woes and increased focus on out-of-state (and international) students to fill funding gaps and there you go.
