Almost, John Oliver is intellectual edging, stopping right before the root issue while Joe Rogan is just a rollercoaster to the roots of fascism

I use John Oliver as an indicator of how far a progressive who otherwise isn’t that involved politically is willing to see things. His content can be useful to know where to start when planting seeds to radicalize them further.

Yeah, he's definitely a first step for many (and on many issues)

30 Minutes of Describing Capitalism Without Using the Words Capitalism or Socialism Tonight

It always feels like if The Jungle avoided any mention of the slaughterhouse. We must feel sorry for the Lithuanians being turned into tinned meat, we must vote for progressive candidates who want food safety regulations, we must stop the child labour>child alcoholism pipeline. I wish we knew where these things are happening but they're all just isolated incidents occurring in a vacuum. Look everyone it's a guy dancing in a tuberculosis pig costume let's have a laugh instead of using the word "commodity".

Honestly the funny thing is that I can literally imagine John Oliver saying the words in the original post and in this comment, perhaps with some very small alterations. Like I can imagine the exact cadence he would use, and yet I know that he's never going to actually say it unless we move into a different timeline.

"... and this brings us to our main story tonight, Capitalism. Tonight we're finally pulling the thread that runs through every episode of this show since its inception. Now I know what you're thinking, John, this seems like a pretty large undertaking for a guy who looks and sounds like they are the result of someone putting every historical imperialist figure into a blender and then painstakingly pouring the pulp into a burlap sack wearing a pair of stylish black classes. And [chuckle] it's true! I am incredibly white! ..."

Unless it is these incredibly wild accusations of the Chinese killing their Uyghur minority to make wigs! Then we have satellite images of exactly where the factories are (even though they literally just look like every other generic factory and there is literally no proof provided by the photographs)! Aren't we so smart!?

The John Oliver show can never say what it wants to, because HBO would cancel it immediately.

But also.. he doesn’t just fucking lie like Rogan.

He says the issue, and you fill in the greater cause behind the causes.

Believe it or not, John Oliver is actually being ratatouille'd by a little gremlin that lives in his nose, who controls every word he says. He wants to say so much but the gremlin just doesn't let him......

I like his content. Obviously except for foreign policy related pieces, he's a great introduction to more left wing ideas. Him and Some More News are what I would show people if they're generally apolitical/watch msnbc for their information.

Joe Rogan sells "life supplements" to morons. The podcast episodes are an excuse to push said "supplements" to his audience of sad near suicide american males.
