And it may be the fact that I've been driven towards sympathizing with the Russians over the course of events, but aside from "all war is a crime" what part of the Russian invasion was a war crime? The part where they fired back at artillery that was using civilians as human shields? Are we going to talk about war crimes without reexamining Russia's justifications for attacking?

Violations of the Geneva Conventions constitute a war crime, but given how broad they can be that's something basically every power in every war does. The most clear cut example I can think of in this war is that there's been evidence (often from the perpetrators themselves) of both sides executing prisoners taken on the battlefield rather than making them prisoners of war.

But that is also liveral dogma. It implies that either history is over or that states are no longer relevant actors in historical processes. The former is oviously bullshit. If its the later why should one care? To belive the current distribution of borders as if it was divinley ordained is insane. The earth is 6000 years old level of insane.

They dont seem to mind israel for some reason.

If they didn't want the power plants that run their factories to be a fair target they probably shouldn't have started using terrorist bombing tactics on civilian bridges during rush hour because that was the escalation that caused it

            PIGPOOPBALLS

It blows my mind that I can find someone on here who will proudly defend terrorist bombings that explicitly target civilians on behalf of a Banderite nazi government and on behalf of fucking NATO expansion. Empathy for the victims that nazi government uses as human shields but no empathy for the victims of cold blooded pointless murder. Guess they're just orcs, right?

How have you managed to blend in on this website for 9 months? Is this the first time you've gone mask off?

proudly defend? where? it is not a defense of a crime to say repeating the same crime in kind is unjustifiable and also criminal.

jesus christ get a grip not everyone who isn't willing to delude themselves about Russia's conduct is a slava ukraini flag waver, you're a perfect reflection of the liberal knee-jerkers reacting to uncomfortable facts about ukraine

If you want to back off what you said and did, I'm fine with that. But don't pretend that you weren't deliberately erasing context and constructing worthy versus unworthy victims.

And you're pretty touchy for somebody who decided to frame my position as saying innocent people deserve to die when I'm talking about consequences resulting from a bad actor nation state. Perhaps it is you who needs a grip gotten.

i am not going to walk back emphasizing the human cost in response to a callous dismissal of the reality of a war crime because "they did it first". that is not an exonerating "context".

the war crimes happened, both sides have done them, you do not get to dismiss your team's by gesturing to what the other guys are doing. they don't aim your bombs.

you remember this is just a response to the question "what part of the Russian invasion was a war crime?" is what i have cited not a war crime? do you have compelling evidence that Russia has not bombed civilian infrastructure or medical facilities?

You need to kill the redditor that lives in your brain because this kind of outright lying to my face about what I just motherfucking said isn't going to keep me engaged in this conversation.

I'm getting legitimately pissed off at your bullshit now so I'm going to dip out. Have a good one.

Only after Ukrainian troops started hiding there during battles

In the very beginning there were loads of videos of Russian artillery bombing only military infrastructure and respecting the infrastructure to the point of even following road rules (right of way, traffic lights) and climbing up poles to gently remove CCTV cameras instead of blowing/shooting it up

sure that was commendable but behaving well at one point does not provide a pass when that good behavior stops.

the current geneva conventions were literally drawn up by those allies after WW2 in the interest of never repeating the conduct of WW2. because it was bad!

and since when were the allies off limits for criticism in ww2? they certainly aren't in the pacific
