That last bit “I can’t stop liking Trump, even when it ruins my life” is super cult like.

No it is not. You probably wouldn't stop being a communist/socialist/anarchist/marxist/feminist/atheist/materialist (pick your poisons lol) either in a similar situation.
That just means that you prioritize beliefs/truth/ethics over how those affect your personal life.

And it is a completely different thing to be silent about something or to stop liking it.
That poster also specifically phrased it as "I can't change who I am", just like I could never become religious without a whole bunch of lobotomies first.

Almost all of Trump's working class (and some petite bourgeois) supporters genuinely believe that Trump is good for America and its people.
(or at least that he is the "lesser evil", but honestly, I've rarely if ever seen that kind of rhetoric from the right at all)

This is not to object to using social pressure against them (do!) or even social isolation, or to say that Trumpism is not cult like (it is).
But adherence to beliefs in spite of social consequence is more admirable than not.

And in fact the opposing tendency of excommunication is much more cult like; and is used by almost all cults (including many large organized religions).
Although the daughter, in this case, did not excommunicate them; she merely established sensible personal boundaries, and has not closed the dialog, or blocked their communication and all paths to redemption.

Specifically cult like would be the need to evangelize or profess, that it requires expressing opinions even towards those that do not want to hear about it anymore.
So maybe focus on that closely related aspect of Trumpism instead.

Please for the love of god, if we are going to use cults as analogies, then use them accurately.
I've lost track of how many times I've seen leftism/marxism being referred to as a cult like and pseudoscientific ideology, based on the same weak analogies and often misunderstandings of cults more generally.
Using this line of attack against Trump (or anything besides liberals, centrists, or actual religions) is only mending a weapon that gets used systematically against us.

Sometimes I think it'd be a worthwhile effort to try and show these people the errors of their ways but then I realize they would literally kill me if they had the opportunity

Propaganda is too fucking strong, folks

It's sad that the only thing getting these boomers to embrace new ideas (forums and shit) is blatant bigotry. You know how many assholes yelled at me when I ran the self checks at work? Guaranteed they took the time to figure out their 2004 dell optiplex so they can post about their hate of the blacks

a year back i attended a dem debate watch party hosted by a cool boomer bernie supporting israeli couple. they had a teen daughter and son who were both very passionate about bernie. actually quite inspiring to see kids on the same page and just as passionate as their partents politically. me and my friend were the second to next youngest people there. most of the other attendees were boomers which was surprising to me. there was this one guy wearing a cringe russia-gate t-shirt though. i think i tried to explain very sloppily what QAnon was to their teen son. kid probably knows what it is now lol. bureka is fucking delicious

I wouldn't say they were entirely replaced. 4chan always had a libertarian disposition, which left the door wide open for the reactionaries to make themselves at home. Libertarians have a keen eye for identifying the deterioration of society, but they have no systemic conception of power, and no answers. Meanwhile the fascists are willing to spin any story and blame any scapegoat to explain the alienation of a generation of petit bourgeois failsons. The dimwits on 4chan swallowed it hook line and sinker.

I was thinking this was kinda sad but you gotta be the lowest of low to visit that site anyways. They ain't your ordinary ignorant conservatives

They all believed that Reddit was lying to them about their subscriber counts and that they actually had dozens of millions of active users. The only way you'd get them to accept that the new site is legitimate is by fudging upvote and user counts to make it look like their beliefs were right

Also important to note that they were botting the heck out of the original subreddit too and the reason the new site has a domain ban on reddit is because they were botting to advertise it. It's bots all the way down.

Probably about as many as were active on the subreddit. They pinned a link to the new site and literally locked the entire sub so people couldn't drag their feet about switching, so the number of people who followed them over is probably at least like 80-90%.

No idea what that means in raw numbers, though. I never paid attention to that.

i think the upvote counts are fudged. if you look at the comment counts id reckon they have 3-4x the users we have. though on our top posts, we get similar levels of engagement despite clearly having less people.

They also had a very large timeframe to get people over from the sub. We got randomly snuffed out without warning.
