14 me's music was more edgy and depressed than current me's music which is a hell of a lot less edgy.
For example I listened to a lot of Parachutes from Coldplay, Sleep Party People, Portishead, Radiohead, Bjork, and so forth when I was 14.
Now my tastes are broad and varied. Quite literally from Latin-American rap to more modern Indian social commentary and interpretive dance music, to even Indonesian City-pop, although I tend to listen mostly to Hoshimachi Suisei or Ado
The only musical taste that stuck with me was listening to video game osts as a kid, still do. As an adult I'm into all sorts of music.
Ah same, I'm still a sucker for Final Fantasy music from 4 through 6
He truly is one of the few music directors from the game industry I genuinely admire and enjoy
Anyways trying to figure out which ska track to post for today.
I like the same stuff as I did when I was 14 but I added a lot more and expanded my musical interests from there.
Lol no. I had no taste in music when I was 14. I developed a taste in music in college, when I actually had the time to listen to music, because I wasn't involved in like 3-4 different after school things.
I think the biggest change is when I got into hyperpop in 2018, right before it blew up.
When I was 14 I still hadn't really figured out how to find be music. Napster was just becoming a thing, buying CDs still cost money (and the closest store that sold them that wasn't Walmart was 30 miles away), and there were five radio stations that got reception in my area - one boomer rock station, one Christian music station, and the rest were top 40. And all my friends listened to pop punk that I didn't like.
I used to listen to a lot more metal, I still do sometimes but I haven’t heard as much in recent years that inspires me. Except for industrial metal, that has stayed consistently in my rotation along with industrial at large. Still enjoy jazz, although I find I play that more than listen to it. And certain bands I always come back to, Rush, They Might Be Giants.
Different things I listen to these days, well I listen to some vaporwave but that wasn’t a thing when I was young so yeah. Also, lately I’ve really been getting into breakcore, and I definitely wasn’t into drum ‘n’ bass when I was younger.
I mean I still listen to the stuff I listened to back then but it's evolved a lot. Now I listen to synthwave, darksynth, dungeon synth, post-rock, more experimental electronic stuff, etc.
I didn't change, I grew.
I've broadened the fuck out of my horizons but I still come back to NIN, Tool, Radiohead, and video game OSTs on occasion. Laugh all you want IDGAF!
When I was in high school I had the musical tastes of a sixty-five year old butt rock aficionado. That and the soundtrack from Rugrats in Paris. I've moved on, but "Here Comes Chuckie Chan" still slaps.
Yes and no. I still listen to some of the stuff I listened to back then, but I listen to way more diverse stuff than back then.
Thank goodness I grew up from listening white dudebro post-grunge in the early 2000s tho.
Wonder how much actually having access to music as a kid affects this because I didn't have many radio stations and the ones I did were meh at best. Parents had a decent amount of CDs and vinyl records but 80% of it's like Alias, Trooper, Def Leppard, etc. Didn't really have much access to downloading to music online, though there was a bit.
I was copying CDs from my friends' and their parents' collections. I was recording songs off of the radio on a cassette tape. When we got satellite TV they had some kind of music radio stations on there and I'd write down the songs I liked and when I went to my grand parent's with high-speed internet I'd download them all onto a USB drive and listen to them off an MP3 player at home.
Once I finally got access to music beyond that my taste expanded a lot.
No way. Listening to songs I used to love makes me cringe hard. Not because they're bad, but it brings back the feeling of being an awkward teenager.
