It's pretty much the worst kind of house to have, enjoyable only by the ultra wealthy who visit every once in a while and leave it otherwise uninhabited. Having to take a fucking boat to get groceries or do anything sucks ass, saltwater-air is bad for basically everything humans make, etc etc.

Oh yeah the upkeep is probably insane, but idk there is just this weirdo inside me who wanted to live in a lighthouse.

Being a lighthouse keeper definitely has a certain appeal, but yeah I definitely wouldn't want it to be my lighthouse that I'm expected to pay to have maintained lol

It has been a while since I applied anywhere.... but they all want degrees and professional experience last time I looked :(

Idk maybe I should start applying again sometime. It's not like I have a resume to show them beyond retail/supply chain work though lol. I don't even have contributions to open-source projects to show tbh. I never finish any of my projects. doomjak

Hmm are there any open source projects you could see yourself working on? Maybe start small instead of planning your own thing which you don’t finish. Sorry I don’t want to give you unsolicited advice. I don’t even know if the advice I give is any good.

I actually have worked on a few open-source projects but I never submitted my patches... then I forget about them and they get lost to time lol. On stock OpenBSD (which I run), my desktop PC's audio is kinda broken (long story, can link you a post I made about it if you're curious) so I had to patch the OpenBSD kernel Intel HDA (corpo acronym but the last letter means "audio") driver to make it work properly (had to add a whole new mode of operation for what I think is probably broken hardware, like my motherboard manufacturer fucked it up). I'm still maintaining that patch on my own lol, I need to submit it.

It's good advice and I don't mind, I'm just maining untreated ADHD rn, maybe that's why I don't do these things

As for my own projects.... these grand and often probably ridiculous ideas for software (recent example: video game as a filesystem) come into my head and I hack on them obsessively for a while and never finish them because of the scale :(

That sounds super cool, as I said I kinda hate computers I only turn on my desktop every now and then to play games or make music on it. You should definitely submit the patch. Is there a hacker space in your area you could maybe meet other people who like computers and that can also lead to career opportunities. Also you could meet other people who want to hack on your crazy ideas with you. Maybe start one if there isn’t one in your area.

The only reason I ever got into any computers/electronics was because I wanted a weird groove box, it turned out I just hated everything about it. Now I have a bunch of hardware lying around. I always hoped some one would help me build it but people were always just like you’re smart you can do it yourself. Since I just kinda hate doing it though it’ll never get done. Or maybe I’ll manage this school I’ve signed up to and it will be my graduation project let’s see. The untreated adhd sounds horrible, you should try treat that asap.

Anyways I hope my random advice is useful

The hacker space is a really great idea, I should look into that, thank you. Would love to find/make some Plan 9 weirdos in my area lol

Ooh I didn't know what a groove box was til I looked it up just now, looks cool but I'm sorry you found out you didn't like :(

I hope at least you can find good money in computers or get to work with them in some capacity related to things you like. Like... computers on the ocean... ocean computers... thinkin-lenin or even just getting to help people. I think I would hate most computer jobs lol cuz so much of it is the most useless shit

I gotta go to bed, am really tired, but it's been fun talking

A video that might help you. Yeah I have all the stuff lying around and the school I’m going to is for electronics and coding so the building a groove box idea would be a perfect final project so maybe I’ll manage to stick it through but I’m feeling insanely pessimistic. I’ll still try it though because I got nothing to loose. I’ve also been up for a day now.

I highly doubt it's even the world's shortest international bridge. Many nations' borders follow a tiny brook or stream, which will likely be bridged at some point.

yup, went to r/borderporn (not a redditor just remember that one!) and searched "bridge", found tons of examples, especially in the schengen zone

tiny footbridge connecting Latvia and Estonia in Valga/Valka:

they'll probably smugly point out that it's tongue-in-cheek and both island are on the canadian side of the imaginary line that runs through the st. lawrence river but it'd be kinda funny if some border patrol agents decided to wait on the "american" island to tackle and arrest the homeowner for illegal entry or something

Nationalism is a tool like any other and while there is some absurdity to it like borders broadly being an imaginary concept, we should not be cynical about borders existing because sometimes it does benefit the leftist cause primarily when it comes to indigenous sovereignty and land ownership among other things. Of course when it does not benefit us like the existence of every colonial country we should bring in the fucking clowns and make a joke of the concept. With borders we should act like it’s an old cartoon and whenever the border guard is not looking we quickly move the line further into their territory. Once the revolution is achieved we will look back at borders not with laughter or hatred, but with complete fucking indifference because it doesn’t matter.

is the center of the bridge the territory of Hungary or Yemen? must've been some wacky surveying mishap to lead to that.

Would make for a fun joke to celebrate Juneteenth with Canadians but insist it only be celebrated in the Amerikkkan backyard.
