I mean we’re literally a penal colony, why not get back to our (European) roots?

Initially read this as U.S.S. Australia, as in "we're trying to turn the entire Australian continent into a naval vessel inexplicably under the command of the US Navy"

    I'm very tired.

Oh for sure, Australia has no revolutionary potential. I don’t even see who could form a revolutionary class here - our oppressed indigenous people are such a small segment of the population, and so scattered across the country, that they can barely be called a “class” as such. We have other oppressed minority groups, but the Australian settler project has proven adept at absorbing new waves of immigrants into the larger settler populace. For comparison, the US is obviously a shithole, but they have a significant oppressed black population that could genuinely become revolutionary (and has shown plenty of seeds of this in the past).

Our “working class” has an incredibly petit-boug mindset, I know plenty of self-hating workers who will talk with pride about our social programs compared to the states in one breath, and then whinge about “dole bludgers” in the next. We have the same problem as most majority-white western countries, our lived experience is built on the back of third world suffering and that almost entirely prevents the development of revolutionary consciousness in whatever “proletariat” we manage to scrape together.

Probably the only thing that could make this nation anything but a colonial hellstate would be some internationalist third world socialist movement coming and driving the white settlers into the sea and handing the land back to the traditional owners. We really suck.

Why don’t you fix your gulag that already exists in Nauru

You are not immune to imperialism

Ah yes, I, a leftist joking about gulaging the enemies of the working class, fully support the concentration camps on Nauru. Grow up.
