If you told me five years ago that there would be a DISCOURSE around the Barbie movie, I would probably believe you and then go back to being really depressed

    it's a fucking doll movie

that's really all there is to say lmao. it's a fucking toy commercial - who cares??? it's bad enough that we had to suffer through months of the most aggressive promotional campaign there's been for a movie in years, but now we have to spend god knows how long listening to more culture war bullshit from libs and chuds who both agree that it's a feminist commercial movie

And the funny part is this culture war flashpoint for the right fell right on it's face as the movie made a billion dollars and everyone seems to agree it's fun and funny. le-pol faces are big mad.

I see it less as a culture war flashpoint and more as being part of an outrage cycle as part of the marketing. Online conservative commentators see something that will get them views if they can frame it in a way that make their fanbase outraged. They know there are aspects of the movie that they can talk about that can get their base riled up to dislike the movie. Liberal commentators then see that the conservatives are riled up about the movie and then they make videos dunking on the conservative takes. Liberals see the conservatives takes and have to respond and defend the movie. The movie is no longer just a movie, liking it becomes a part of their political identity. Same for conservatives and disliking it. It all works to generate views for the commentators on both sides and to generate interest in/money for the movie, or whatever is currently being discussed. Same thing happened with that Lil Nas X music video, and now the Jason Aldean music video. The commentators on all sides have to continuously keep picking popular things to try and turn into culture war battles to fuel their shows, it is the core of their content.

The commentary itself is shallow all around. Being a part of the online "discourse" around pop culture is a fucking scam. It's all a repetitive and contrived outrage cycle manufactured by grifters. Very few people I talk to irl pay attention to it anymore.

Rogan is the last living Ron Paul style libertarian who’s left wing on most lifestyle social issues and drug decriminalization but also totally happy to yes and all of the atrocities of empire provided they put the treats in his mouth. It’s peak dumb guy centrism and honestly it’s the best you can hope for in most of your day to day social interactions

Sounds like he's doing a wonder-who-thats-for more than anything, but if he pisses off the 'dorks' that's cool and good I guess.

I used to think that Joe was a harmless himbo back when he would have Cornell West and Bernie on. I dont think so now, evidence that his influence is a cultural net negative just became undeniable.

Every single person I have ever met who has brought up Rogan (not to criticize him) has been a piece of shit. 100% rate of shit head.

Oh, I absolutely agree he's a harmful piece of shit. But he's no more capable of bigotry than a particularly thoughtful dachshund.

I hate the movie too. It's typical white people crap which is the only reason why it's popular. Put a black person as the lead and suddenly both the left and right take their masks off
