Use boiled or otherwise sterile water in your neti pot folks, Naegleria only gets to your brain through your nose. If I remember correctly, bodies of water with an average yearly temperature of like 70 degrees and up are at risk

Naegleria's really interesting in that it's not normally a pathogen and didn't evolve to cause disease but for some reason the pores in our sinuses that go directly to our brains are just perfect for them and once they get in your brain they just go hog-wild

Legit question for rural Americans - How do I kill the 30-50 feral naeglerias that run into my yard within 3-5 mins while my small kids play?

It says a lot of your lack of knowing who I am that you think I could come anywhere close to the kind of motor control or concentration that could prevent that from happening.

If I were recently swimming in a body of warm fresh water and I had a headache, I would be freaking the fuck out. Also they usually don't diagnose you with it until you're dead already. And even if they do there's like a 5% chance you'll survive even with treatment.

What if you were to... take a shower with this water? Would you be fucked? I heard somewhere that it really has to be forced up your nose though.

Showering is worse, it can only go to your brain through your nose, drinking it is actually probably fine. Not that I'd fuck around with it.

Yeah well most people in Texas don’t have brains in the first place so this problem seems like it will burn itself out.
