Sucks. She's easily one of the most intelligent people you would ever meet. Spent years as a public defender, then went to medical school to become a doc. And yet, she thinks socialism is the root of all evil. I've been talking to her for months. First time we talk politics, and it's soul crushing. Argentina is tough. Most women I talk to are peronists, which is worse than US lib IMO. IDK how I will recover, I was so emotionally invested 😭

    Mood, except for me it's getting to know a guy and then finding out he thinks feminism and DEI is the root of all evil

      I was starting to date again after about 14 years of relationships, and did this. Like, in the first few conversations, "hey I'm a radical communist hope thats cool." Got lucky and am now with someone who both mostly agrees with me, and loves how passionate I am.

      Good luck out there!

        for me its more like 5 years of no relationships

        a couple hookups (only one comrade and I think I bungled it but he was nice about it)

        I'm straight up just not in a position to date because my life is a shambles and I'm working on transing my gender some sort of way, but I want to date in theory, so I'm sure it'll happen eventually

        Other problem is I've gotten rid of my smartphone so no dating apps :( They all suck but at least there was grindr, or tinder if I was feeling like getting disappointed. Now I'd have to, idk, make connections via organizing or meet randos at the bar/through the grapevine?

        Yeah not sure what they meant by that. OP probably thought that if they had a little "skin in the game" like that, this person would at least be "progressive" if not socialist. I see where OP was coming from id be fucked up too lol

          I interpreted it as stemming from the med school part. The US has so thoroughly ruined that profession that it's infected the entire hemisphere save for Cuba.

          IK it's late but yeah, IDK how you put in so much work to be a public defender and support wealthy fucks.

    Nothing about intelligence, but conservatives tend to have more parental resources for education and thus advanced degrees. I used to be attracted to the women with the biggest, most posh education and I fell into this problem in my dating days. Given that's she's a doctor AND a lawyer, there's no way parents didn't help out with uni fees and likely much more.

      A public defender at that lol. I don’t know how well paid Argentine lawyers are, but in the US you’ll be lucky to catch a couple hours sleep and some groceries after a paycheck

      Intelligence != education

      Only becomes more clear the more educated you are.

        For people not paying attention, educational achievement can be an easy marker for intelligence. But of course you're right.

    Shit sucks, I can commiserate. Last long term relationship I had was with a Tesla engineer that was a Hillary voter & The West Wing fan. Recently I almost considered moving across the country (to Bushwick lmao) for a Bernie volunteer that I began dating shortly before Oct 7 who turned out to be a radlib-y zionist with a temper. That person works as an economist for water, health, & sanitation NGOs and no longer considers themselves on the left.

    Our arguments got more and more frequent, with them going so far as to say the Nazis were actually socialist and that a secular 1 state solution would result in Palestinians outbreeding Jewish israelis & upset "israeli democracy". She doesn't want to talk since I dumped her for the above reasons, which tbf, did happen shortly after her dad died, but she was trying to force the issue of me moving in with her just 8 months into the relationship and I didn't have a job lined up.
