I started orange book like "hmm, I don't think I relate to Maria much besides the sardonic inner voice part"

i'm almost done with part 1 and god the more I read the more I find things in her life that are 1 to 1 with my life, down to her fashion and music taste. the only thing is that i'm not transfem, i'm in the bracket of vaguely genderqueer transmasc-ish nonbinary that she is critical of, lol. and i listen to more goth music.

I didn't relate hugely to her but there are some elements here or there that I did relate to, enjoyed it thoroughly too.

        spoiler

Well I guess I don't do drugs or drink, there are surface-level differences... but yeah. The more I think about it the worse it is, I think my relationship with my ex-gf was pretty similar to her relationship to Steph too, just that we were long-distance and younger and less experienced with relationships.

        I even fucking browse Craigslist.

I think I am too switched on and always aware and didn't really relate to Maria lol but I can see how that stuff affected you. I usually strugglr yo find things I relate to because my experience has been so turbulent and soyl crushung at times with long periods of living in my head. It's nice to relate to some things even if they remind us of things in that bitter sweet way. I related more to some of the 2nd part of the book but only a little. I did enjoy the characters though I do wish we got a sequel

Two steps ahead of you there screm-cool

My opinion hasn't changed since then, I still think that transmisogyny is the big issue here.

          transmisogyny

Part of the reason why I avoided reading it for years.

Is there some sort of transmisogynistic discourse around orange book??? I mean it wouldn't surprise me
