IDK I mean except for the tweet about How Are We Going to Pay For It it's mostly on point. It is less about the cost of fares, and he's right those people weren't shot because of fare evasion but because of disobedience and that could really have occurred basically anywhere.
Yeah, setting aside the lib obsession with transit making profit or breaking even or a/e point he's making against free transit, he isn't wrong.
Just look at the Tyreke Hill situation. The cops escalated the situation with belligerent behavior and the excuse all the bootlicking scumbag fallback on is "they aren't listening to the police so they got what they asked for".
A white guy got shot by a cop for following his conflicting instructions. Conservatives pretended to care and went back to licking boots the next day. White conservatives don’t even care about other white people lol
If you're talking about Daniel shaver it gets worse, the cop claims PTSD from the event, retired and now collects a yearly pension
How can you be correct but also completely wrong at the same time?
I don't know how the OP describes his politics but I assume he calls himself a "progressive". Words hardly mean anything in the US. He isn't comfortable if a farebeater gets shot to death but he really doesn't like the idea of free transit.
People really underestimate just how much it would cost to make transit free. 2/3rds of the MTA's $6.8 bil fare and toll revenue is fares, which comes out to $4.5 bil or around $12.5 mil a day.
which comes out to $4.5 bil
free transit in our largest/onlyest megacity would cost like 8% of the last aid package we sent to a bunch of fuckin nazis? A steal of a deal, mr liberal
Fuck, just institute a 0.1% tax on Wall Street and you'd have to expand the MTA to spend all the money you'd have.
that too. plus the government literally prints money.
libs that still take "how you gonna pay for it" seriously are the most pitiful ones
. 2/3rds of the MTA's $6.8 bil fare and toll revenue
Pretty slippery way to phrase it without mentioning that Fare and Toll revenue make up only 35% of total revenue for the MTA https://new.mta.info/budget/MTA-operating-budget-basics like obviously they collect more in fares than tolls
So the guy had a knife out, and he allegedly pulled it because because the cops were stopping him over skipping fare. Causal issues here are mental health issues, poverty, and the fact that the fare creates a tension that exacerbates the former two issues which is then brought to a head by the cop.
The cop not being there gets rid of this situation, as their existence in a social group implies and creates violence and getting rid of the fare stops this situation.
All the takes I see about this are ignoring what actually happened, which is annoying and doesn't really help understand the situation.
