Letting war criminals into your big tent dilutes any good you're doing. They're war criminals, Joel, not just people who "don't see eye to eye" with you.

Not surprising to see this though, Joel always approaches every political issue as a philosophical exercise to figure out using the correct rhetorical strategy, a neat little game to solve. So of course he doesn't see the historical atrocities that Cheney and co are responsible for as real, there's a bigger bad on the horizon so it's all just a trolley problem.

J.K. Rowling view of politics where good people have negative qualities (humanizing flaws) and bad people have the same negative qualities (character condemnation).

John Bolton is a warmonger (hitlerian), Dick Cheney is a warmonger (troubled past). It's quasi-religious, these people are redeemed and wash their hand of sin by disavowing Trump even though they may be directly responsible for more death and destruction than the entire trump administration collectively. It's quite literally the shit people clown on Naruto and (kinda) Steven Universe for, every horrific thing someone does can be redeemed if someone more horrific shows up and they say "oh no I was being bad but this is really bad I'm against this" that's not how redemption works! Clownish view of rehabilitation! Spiral to the bottom!

I know Joel wasn't a communist, but I'm surprised to see him make a take this bad

I didnt get the vibe that Joel was far left in any capacity (might have missed something though). So this seems sadly totally on brand for lets say a "progressive" lib.

He made some decent critiques of reactionaries. But you're right, that doesn't mean anything more than a progressive lib.

I thought so too. But reading the twitter thread, the guy defends his pro Kamala position pretty hard.

The dumbest part is these aren’t big Republicans. If they were, they would’ve just identified them by name.
