...but also kinda considering it.
If you do become Christian, don't half-ass it: Make John Brown look like an atheist.
:haram: why would you want to live as an apostate instead of basking in the glory of Allah? :nasrallah:
Muslims and Christians worship the same God, so each can learn a lot from each other. (At least according to an official statement by the church 😶 )
I will not tolerate such talk from kuffar. You must become Shia to please Allah
It sets off an alarm for me that you would need our permission at all, at all to practice your faith. You should try it and of you like it you should keep doing it. If you don't, chalk it up to a lesson learned. But anyone worth keeping around will be happy of you find something you like, brings you peace, gives you the courage to confront injustice, etc.
I strongly disagree with anyone who tries to convince you not to. In my mind, a comrade will call you out if you begin punching down (e.g. the homeless deserve it if they are pagan), but leave you the dignity of your own choices (e.g. the freedom to choose to work 70hr/w or starve homelessly)
Where I'm from we care a lot less about processing thoughts and much more about the thoughts about the process of bringing justice and fraternity to the people who need it most.
The shape of our abrahamic memes is the issue that affects the abrahamicness of our memes
I can only imagine the process you go through when choosing what to eat for dinner.
I'm your biggest fan, Ms. Mayor. Where I'm from we don't choose what we eat for dinner, we choose the texture of our democracy
In my mind, a comrade will call you out if you begin punching down
So you don't know anything about historical materialism or the bourgeois class. Social justice jargon is a bad sign lol

Do your thing. The whole Christian socialist movement thing seems cool.
when i first started hrt and finally had emotions i lowkey was susceptible to converting to christianity if anyone pushed me there. hrt was a big enough deal for me that i lowkey thought maybe there is a higher power.
but instead i just became a hardcore commie
There is such a thing as a Christian left and they seem pretty alright. Believe what you want but put your whole heart into your faith and you won't be a hypocrite like most Christians.
I remember glancing at a conversation about believing that there's no legitimate heirarchy but divine hierarchy. I took nothing else fromm it, but that was an interesting thought
that's a pretty broad question that I'm not sure how to answer ._.
It is rhetorical. The answer is you don't choose. Either you believe or you don't.
what kinda christhoe we talking here
my father was a wack preacher and i went to school for theology (yolo worthless)
just curious what tendency/sect we're looking at
United Church of Christ. They seem pretty open-minded and less dogmatic. Accepting and respectful of the validity of lgbt people and other religions. Have a tradition of being on the side of social justice issues, the poor.
ah, interesting group. there's actually a huge amount of variation in how accepting they are of that sort of thing. there's a totally unrelated group called "Church of Christ" (non-denominational but more or less just slightly less wack baptists) which the United Church of Christ sometimes get confused with, and sometimes (areas further out from Cleveland, the OG UCofC) they kind of merge together as everyone involved gets less aware of which one they are. the nice thing is you dont get the kinda of hyper-libs you get from the fully separate groups like the harvard unitarian types or whatever, where it's just a bunch of elderly people in a room singing about nature or something cringe. (no offense to any unitarians out there)
anyway point is that's a solid choice but you gotta kinda vet which one is nuts and which one isn't because they're pretty all over the place.
good luck fam
Also yeah I kind of was getting that feel from the Unitarians or perhaps more specifically the UUA.
From what I can tell that church and the UCC are in an official sort of partnership/communion, but still denominationally distinct.
Yeah you'll want to avoid the "CofC" generally as much as possible, bad news for any LGBT or anything else really. There's some real fuckers out there who set up CofC churches and put United in or around the title for no real reason, probably unaware of the UCofC/UCOC. It can be hard to tell at first too because a lot of CofC pastors won't lay all their cards on the table like baptists do in their sermons, so you can go for months without knowing they want to burn gay people
I hate that about some religious groups. Be upfront on where you stand on social issues. Put it on your website and in your pamphlets. If you have no shame in your love of God, and God guides you in all things, then own up to your bullshit so people don’t waste their time. Stop hiding behind, “God loves everyone,” when what you really want to say is, “You will never be married in this church.” I’m atheist but I used to be a believer. If they won’t tell you upfront that they will support who you marry (and will marry you in their church), or adopting children, or how you express your understanding yourself, keep walking.
Oh I was thinking of the Disciples of Christ, not whatever you have been mentioning. Just relooked it up
Catholic LibTheo like EZLN or Catholic Revolutionary mystic like Simone Weil? Both branches of Christianity are accepted here.
Or Christian Anarchist...those guys seem cool, have nice comics.
I was thinking more in the Reformed-Congregationalist-Liberal(no, it's chill I swear)theology line.
LibTheo is cool, but idk if I can get down with the Catholic Church, despite being raised such.
well now I am just going to see if you can name a radical sect of anything.
I was thinking something Miaphysitical.
Coptic Liberation Workers Party
(Which apparently is just an alternate history thing, shame)
I'm a Christian. You wouldn't be the only one here.
ETA: feel free to message me if you want to talk.
hootin and hollering like Sam Harris.
Funny thing is that Sam Harris wrote a bunch of books lauding meditation and Eastern "spirituality" and what not.
I've read his book "Waking up" like a decade ago. No, it is specificly about transcendance and makes bold claims about Eastern practices' abilities. Like he writes about how he met some Dzogchen practitioners in India that are capable of making it obvious to any asshole that self is illusionary through asking a sequence of questions like "what do you think you is".
AFAIK "transcendental meditation" is a type of meditation popularised by what is arguably a cult in the 60s with outlandish claims like if a bunch of people do it it will decrease crime in the community.
Maybe it’s about feeling connection to something outside one’s self. It is maybe its about community, maybe its the urge to decentralize the self as the main locus of understanding the world. Maybe its about the thousand other things that religion can provide.
yeah, that's a big part of it.
I am going to say you were probably being a bit unfair in your characterization of AD tho. 😶
To be fair, religion and christianity specifically was and still is responsible for a lot of super fucked up stuff. And the lame reddit bullying tactics are frankly the same thing we do on chapo, just for different reasons
I don't think most of those things are mutually exclusive tho. 😶
I don't really have much to add to the convo but if you wanna see Christianity from a leftist perspective check out Damon Garcia's channel on YT.
