It kind of rules that Putin woke up one morning and was like "Today I will make everyone in american media and everyone who pays attention to them lose their minds" and then just...did.

Russia’s political ideology has gone from ‘international proletarian revolution’ to ‘fuck it, let’s troll’.

Ngl, the west kinda deserves it.

      It's more basic than that

His control is based on a network of oligarchs and loyalists

So he keeps them happy, via corruption

And if they trimmed a little off the top, maybe no one would notice

But the corruption is grotesque and people suffer (much like the US)

      So what do they do?

They come up with increasingly insane solutions to stay in power

Attack Georgia for nationalistic pride, same with Crimea

Of course this is bad for Russia overall, but the national good was never a goal

They keep doing it and it keeps working

Yea, this is a good take until it gets into geopolitics. Putin would have been coup’d if he didn’t invade Crimea. It’s absolutely vital to Russia that they have that port and they’ve fought brutal wars over it in the past.

Less vital in the era of climate change, as Artic ports are able to stay open year round.

But still a big deal to have access to the Mediterranean.

Yeah, but also, this thing here is just trolling. He’s just having fun with it right now.

          Maybe

But there is a lot of fear at the moment with Belarus

He is afraid of getting Gadafied through the streets

This has to be literally fake because putin has nothing to do with communism and wouldn't ever describe himself as one

"The Democratic Party is traditionally closer to the so-called liberal values, closer to social democratic ideas," Putin said. "And it was from the social democratic environment that the Communist Party evolved."

        That title is incredibly misleading.

But to think that the Social Democracy of Lenin's RSDLP is somehow comparable to western Social Democrats of our day is pretty ridiculous too.

    The full interview

I'm honestly kinda puzzled by it. I think this was primarily directed at Russians, in which case... What's he trying to tell them? "Don't worry if Biden wins, he won't start a war with us, we can build solidarity on the fact that we both care about Black people" lmao

I don't know how people read and don't think it lends credibility to Putin's involvement in the 2016 elections.
