Adam Conover explains the problem with 3rd parties
Removed by modI live in LA and I seen this guy before spewing endless dumb stories about his tv show to young poor innocent women.
I just imagine this video as a POV of a 22 year old girl he randomly approached at the bar and started talking to about politics for no reason.
10 years ago I was a big “ranked choice could fix everything!” lib and I guess for that reason it feels like a very juvenile and poorly thought out bandaid slapped on the problem. I mean if we switched capital would just find a way to capture it in the same way they do fptp now. They still have all the money and lobbying isn’t going anywhere
We have a thing for ranked choice on the ballot in my state but it comes with nonpartisan primaries that will send four of the same ghoul to the ranked choice general and get rid of write ins.
They probably would if participation gets low enough or a third party gets enough repeated success, but be prepared to see crony parties being propped up to sheepdog the less ideologically committed or single-issue voters into ruling coalitions. "Here's your seat at the table now shut the fuck up."
Adam Ruins Everything Except Electoralism Which Is Cool And Good And You Should Definitely FALL IN LINE
MSM: why would we cover third parties between election cycles? That's ridiculous. General population: These people only pop up when it's time to get elected! It's all a grift.
Democrats had 8 years under Obama and 4 years under Biden to implement a more democratic system. Clinton lost despite winning popular vote by over 2%, they still did not care. It's in their interests to not have third parties in legislature/executive.
he's blaming 3rd parties for a chicken and egg problem; but somehow believes that it can be solved by the foxes.
Blud that is not the problem with third parties that is the problem with your political system
Once again the libs are here to tell you a better world is not possible.
Call them opposition parties, since both the Republicans and Democrats are effectively always "in government" as a coalition, with one being the junior partner depending on election performance.
In a European coalition, if the minority of the coalition disagree with some law being voted on, does the whole coalition still vote for that law? Or would minority legislators break and vote with the opposition?
Maybe the party shouldn't have taken votes for granted and spat in the face of key votes they needed to win.
No, it's the other candidates that are unfairly affecting the election
Fucking unbelievable that Kamala got endorsed by Cheney. I knew America was sliding toward fascism but it's been much faster than I expected
I mean he made a Netflix show about government and had Obama on and didn't yell at him at all so I saw this coming a mile away.
I wouldn't vote for Kamala in a ranked choice system either and that's why I'm not voting for her. I've voted for democrats in the past for that reason. In a ranked choice system, I would rank the democrat above the republican, my preferred candidate would not get elected and my vote would elect the democrat, so I just pretended that was happening and voted for the democrat. I would still rank Kamala above Trump, but I would not vote for either of them in this election because I do not vote for genocide enablers.
Wow, our current political system prevents us from getting someone who's third party elected for president, making our votes spoilers than can prevent one of the mainstream candidates from winning? No one I've ever encountered has brought that up before! WTF I'm pro Kdolf now! /s
Aw man he's a sexpest? Damn
I got good vibes from Dropout and he's a part of that, so now I gotta wonder who else is a creep.
Do you have any more stories? I'm curious nowThey make fun content at Dropout but lord are they the ultimate radlibs
Beardsley got arrested at a pro-Palestinian protest wearing a “not in our name” shirt. I believe they also donated a bunch of the previous mini auction proceeds to pro-Palestinian charity. And they’re all extremely good on labor issues. I dunno if I’d go as far as saying they’re radlibs. Some of them are, but not all.
Yeah Beardsley getting arrested and also not promoting voting stuff is why I excluded them but giving money to charity and being pro-labor can easily be lib positions in the current climate. Giving money to Palestinian charities and then saying vote for Kamala is not even radlib, its just lib
Outside of Ally Beardsley who I have not seen promote voting for Kamala or taking part in fundraisers and phone banking for Kamala, the rest of them are at most on the LA DSA mailing list and otherwise just make more and more money in Hollywood and get hired into more and more Hollywood jobs. Even Brennan was just promoting voting on his stories yesterday, these are the "free Gaza, vote Kamala" types of libs who want the aesthetics of leftism as a virtue signal and marketing tactic. I follow a lot of them and have been seeing all the cringe most of them have been posting
Yeah Grant is gone. Dude likes the West Wing.
Beardsley seems rad as far as I can tell. They're in court right now for shutting down the freeway for a protest against the genocide in Gaza.Brennan
Dude has always had a bit of a "being leftist for clout"-vibe, though I don't think there's a lot of people who actually do that, since it's so much easier shilling for the right. But as much as I like the stuff he does he has had a bit of a sort of vibe I guess. On the other hand he seems like a genuine dude who does a lot of good stuff. And now he's a dad, which tends to make most well-off people mellow out significantly.
I follow a lot of them and have been seeing all the cringe most of them have been posting
Dang. I felt like they were better than that. Money makes people worse ig.
I enjoy most of their content and most of them seem like fun and cool people as far as people go, Grant being one of my least favorite for several reasons but still funny sometimes. I think it is less a "leftist for clout" situation at the outset and more like what most radlibs (dem socs, anarchists especially) do which is sincerely want a better world but have a very surface level of theoretical development and will not prioritize that over developing a career and becoming a stable beneficiary of imperialism treat enjoyer. I have high hopes for Beardsley to be the vanguard of dropout employees but I think it is more likely that dropout's continued success will lead them all in the direction of $$
and tbh I am harsh and think calling to vote for kamala is cringe but its a pretty standard and typical position in this country and it isn't surprising that publicly these up and coming celebrities would want to seem like "normal progressives" even if they have deeper more revolutionary desire, hopefully that is the case but I have a lot of doubt about that
I had high hopes for him and do love his work but yeah he definitely could do better to embody the characters he is very good at writing and portraying. Although he is now a parent and is becoming progressively more wealthy through a career in Hollywood so it is much more likely that his trajectory will trend the other way
I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:
The guy who owns Dropout is literally the son of Clinton's Secretary of Labor and they made this
"This will continue to be the case until one day, we get proportional and ranked-choice voting."
Democrats could spend 20 years worth of political capital to try to get this, and still come up 3% of votes short.
It's never going to happen. Nothing is ever going to progress with the Democrats.
